Heartbreaking reason Prince Harry regretted bombshell statement about Megxit

17 hours ago 2

It’s been reported that Prince Harry may not have been as confident about his decision to step away from the Royal Family in 2020 as was once thought.

Harry and wife Meghan Markle shocked the world when they announced they were moving overseas and away from official royal duties.

They cited a desire for more privacy and said they wanted to support themselves financially, in a statement reading: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family, and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

The late Queen, who still reigned at the time, was said to be stunned by the decision - as was the rest of ‘The Firm’. And according to reports in The telegraph, Harry later had a major regret about “blindsiding” his beloved gran with the shock announcement.

In the days following the news, the Queen made the unprecedented move of releasing a statement about the matter.

A source told the Telegraph at the time: “I don't think he fully appreciated the impact the statement would have in terms of them not consulting the Queen. He regrets that."

Saddened, the Queen’s statement confirmed that the Sussexes were no longer “full time working members” of the family though she’d have “preferred” them to have remained. She also said she supported their decision and vowed to ensure they remained “a valued part of my family”, and she added: “Harry and Meghan have made clear that they do not want to be reliant on public funds in their new lives," the Queen said. "It has therefore been agreed that there will be a period of transition in which the Sussexes will spend time in Canada and the UK.

"These are complex matters for my family to resolve, and there is some more work to be done, but I have asked for final decisions to be reached in the coming days."

A statement was released by Buckingham Palace in February 2020, on behalf of the Queen: “ "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of The Royal Family," it read.

"Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service. The honorary military appointments and Royal patronages held by The Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of The Royal Family.

"While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family."

Yesterday we reported Prince Harry is confirmed to be embarking on another solo journey to the UK without Meghan next month to attend an ongoing trial with News Group Newspapers.

While Harry returns to his homeland, Meghan will stay back with their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, having not set foot on UK soil since September 2022 for the late Queen Elizabeth's funeral.

This news follows a recent report suggesting that Meghan's once-close relationship with King Charles has dwindled to virtually nothing.

An insider alleges that there is now zero contact between them, and a "sticking point" in Charles's relationship with Meghan and his youngest son Harry has been the Duke's decision to sue the UK Government for withdrawing his taxpayer-funded official police security.
