Honda’s Wild 0 Series EVs Slated for 2026

15 hours ago 2

At last year’s CES, Honda introduced the wild, wedge-shaped 0 Series EV concept. Last fall, North American journalists traveled to Japan to see how Honda was progressing toward bringing the car to market. Surely, we all thought, Honda would tone down the car’s styling before it hits dealer lots—`there’s no way that design will make it to production. We were half right, as this week at CES, Honda revealed two 0 (said as “zero”) Series prototypes that look even wilder.

Honda, in its own estimation, was late to the game when it comes to electric cars. While other carmakers promised to shift entirely to EVs, Honda took a more measured approach, eventually launching the Prologue, a crossover made in partnership with General Motors. Now, in an American market where interest in EVs is less than expected, Honda is hoping a totally new approach will find traction with consumers.

Unlike the “concept” cars we saw last year, the “prototypes” pictured here represent something pretty close to what we’ll see on dealer lots. The Honda 0 SUV will come first and, like the Saloon, will make use of novel manufacturing processes to create a structure that maximizes interior space and minimizes weight. Mechanical systems like brakes, steering, and suspension are computer controlled, and Honda claims they’ll work together to make the 0 Series cars stable and fun to drive.

The Saloon will follow and, while it’s mechanically similar to the SUV, its styling will place it among the most avant garde vehicles in the world. Both EVs will get a new operating system named Asimo after Honda’s beloved humanoid robot. Honda says the 0 Series cars will work to create a relationship with its owner and the people who are important to her. They’ll also be capable of level three autonomous driving.

These cars are a major swing for Honda, and we’ll have a chance to see how they’re received by consumers in 2026.
