How Many Points Did Bronny James Score in Lakers Win Over Suns?

2 months ago 7

In the Los Angeles Lakers' second game of the season, they remained undefeated with a comeback win over the Phoenix Suns. They trailed heavily early on but found a way to rally back to get the win at home.

Los Angeles used another strong game from star big man Anthony Davis to lead the charge but it was a total team effort. They blitzed the Suns in the second half to earn another win to open the season.

But once again, many eyes were on rookie guard Bronny James. However, in this game, James didn't take the court, and was a DNP-Coach's Decision.

This isn't overly shocking considering that the team has planned for him to play most of his games in the G-League this season. Los Angeles is allowing the rookie to stay with the team throughout their upcoming road trip, but they will then send him down.

The plan of attack for the rookie has always been about development. He isn't ready to be in the NBA full-time so the Lakers want to give him time to grow his game.

They have spent time this summer putting more of an emphasis on player development and James is one of their main candidates. Lakers head coach JJ Redick previously has said that James has a chance to become an impactful player at the NBA level but needs time to hone in his skillset.

"For us, prioritizing player development, we view Bronny as like, case study one, because his base level of feel, athleticism, point-of-attack defender, shooting, passing, there's a lot to like about his game," Redick said in July. "And as we sort of build out our player development program holistically, he's going to have a great opportunity to become an excellent NBA player."

If the Lakers can be patient and allow him to develop, he could eventually turn into a decent role player. While his offensive game is still a work in progress, James has shown some strong instincts on the defensive side of the ball.

It's something that teams cannot teach and the Lakers are very high on his overall upside despite his limited game at this time.

It won't be easy for the rookie and the expectations are sky high due to who his father is. He will be given a chance to thrive and will be up to him to take full advantage of his opportunity with the team.
