The Grand Dame of the Real Housewives of Potomac is the master of mess. She has kept her nose clean for nine seasons while throwing others under the bus. But this is what we love about Karen Huger, as her art of shade knows no bounds. Season 9 will try to highlight Karen’s legal issues, but don’t expect many answers since she is keeping her cards close to her chest. Instead, she will weave stories and tales about her co-stars to keep you distracted, yet entertained.
As Season 9 kicked off, Karen brought her attitude to Gizelle Bryant’s Hattitude party. Even though both women have been long-time frenemies, Gizelle was concerned for Karen, who had recently gotten her second DUI. Prior to her birthday party, Gizelle took Karen out for a meal at her favorite local spot where everyone knew her name. We learned that the Karen special was French toast and scrambled eggs. But for fans, the manager felt like a “Karen plant.” Weirdly, he noted that she had never had an alcoholic beverage at his establishment. The statement didn’t feel genuine.
As Gizelle gave a bombastic side eye to the comment, it very much felt like Karen was trying to deflect from any questions regarding her sobriety. Fast forward to the Hattitude party. There, Karen quickly brushed past questions, noting she was sad as it was the anniversary of her mother’s death. Karen even doubled down, telling her co-stars, “It’s not the inquisition party they thought it was going to be.” But the best moment of deflection during the party came when Karen started grilling Mia Thornton. She couldn’t help but call out Mia for always talking about “protecting her kids.” The move was savage but got the spotlight off her.
Karen Huger ignores that fact she screwed over Gizelle Bryant
It didn’t go unnoticed that Gizelle was super excited to host a party in honor of her late father. The event had been planned for weeks, and the ladies had all RSVP’d. However, at the last minute, Karen decided to send out an invitation to an awards dinner she was being honored at. The move was shady, especially since Karen kept forgetting the actual date and time when asked by Gizelle.
Karen offered a sprinter van to ensure the women could go to both parties. The offer could have been more helpful. After being given a timestamp by Ashley Darby, the women arrived late and were subsequently kicked out before the party could even start. Whether knowingly or unknowingly, Karen passed the buck and made Gizelle look like the antagonist while she walked away smelling like roses. As a master in deflection, Karen once again got off the hook Scott-free without having to take any accountability.
Karen Huger calls in Jesus to shade Mia Thornton
While at Lake Norman, I think Mia forgot who she was going up against when she decided to bring up a three-year-old butt dial. The former stripper shared with the group that Karen was a liar, claiming she heard the Grand Dame mocking them over the phone. The plan backfired as Karen dug up “25 convictions” against Jacqueline Blake’s baby daddy, but she also made Mia look a fool for daring to bring up a drunk dial. Karen was not about to be schooled by Mia, and quite frankly, it is a lesson everyone can learn when it comes to counteracting gossip.
As Karen continued to dodge and weave questions, she laid the smackdown on poor Mia. As the ladies asked Karen about possibly entering rehab, she clapped back, saying, “Mia has been through rehab herself.” The notion shocked the cast as newbie Stacey Rusch about fell off the couch. “Mia started The Joint practice because she had an opioid addiction,” she added as Ashley looked on in disbelief.” Karen ended her tirade, noting, “Mia doesn’t want to protect anyone. She’ll step on Jesus to stand up.” One thing is for sure: Karen remains the street fighter she has always been, and nobody will break down her walls anytime soon.
