The annual Caribbean Series club tournament finishes up the preliminary round on Tuesday with a pair of games, including the Japanese team's final shot to get a win and advance to the knockout stage when it takes on the Venezuelan team.
This annual tournament features the winning teams from the domestic leagues in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Venezuela and this year for the first time features a team representing Japan. The Venezuelan team in the tournament is 2024–25 Venezuelan Professional Baseball League winner Cardenales de Lara, which currently sits in fourth place.

Together, these two teams sport a combined record of 1-5 so far in the competition, but there's a chance for one to end the preliminary round on a strong note.
For Cardenales de Lara, a win here would lock the team into the next round. The team is managed by Henry Blanco and won its only game of the tournament on Monday when they beat Indios de Mayaguez 10-5 to put the team in position to advance.
Japan Breeze's chance to advance isn't as easy. They need a win and would also need Puerto Rico to win, which would avoid a three-way tie for the final two spots.
Japan needs the final spot to come down to them and Venezuela which would trigger the head-to-head match tiebreaker. So far, Japan Breeze has struggled to prevent runs though, allowing 22 while scoring just five of its own.
