Zendaya says it’s “not really” weird acting alongside her boyfriend Tom Holland.
During an interview with Vanity Fair from November 2024, the Dune actress explained she feels “strangely comfortable” when working with her boyfriend while on set.
“It’s like second nature, if anything. You feel extra safe with the person you’re acting beside,” she explained. “I love working with him. He’s so talented, and so passionate about what he does. He always gives things one thousand percent, even if he’s absolutely worn down. I really appreciate that about him. It feels pretty normal. That’s how we met. Literally, at a chemistry read.”
In case you’re somehow unaware, Tom and Zendaya first sparked romance rumors in 2017, after starring in Spider-Man: Homecoming together. Originally denying their relationship, they two finally confirmed their romance prior to the 2021 release of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
“Parts of my life, I accept, are going to be public,” Zendaya told Elle in August 2023 of her love life. “I can’t not be a person and live my life and love the person I love. But also, I do have control over what I choose to share. It’s about protecting the peace and letting things be your own but also not being afraid to exist. You can’t hide. That’s not fun, either. I am navigating it more than ever now.”
The two are incredibly supportive of one another, and aren’t afraid to talk about one another during interviews (anymore)! During an interview with GQ in 2021, Tom revealed that his girlfriend has seriously helped him deal with the pressure of fame.
“Having her in my life was so instrumental to my sanity,” the England native explained. “She is so good at being the role model for young guys and girls. When anyone comes up, like, ‘Can I have a picture?,’ it’s never a bad time. Whereas my initial reaction was: ‘Why are you talking to me? Leave me alone.’ ”
However, Zendaya praised her boyfriend by how he handled skyrocketing fame after Spider-Man first premiered in an interview with Vogue.
“We were both very, very young, but my career was already kind of going, and his changed overnight,” Zendaya told Vogue in a cover story for the May 2024 British and American issues.
“One day you’re a kid and you’re at the pub with your friends, and then the next day you’re Spider-Man,” she said of her longtime beau. “I definitely watched his life kind of change in front of him. But he handled it really beautifully.”
