Lookfantastic's The Box: January Edit contains 6 products and one sample

While there are many things to love about winter, from its crisp and fresh mornings to snuggling down under your heated blanket at 5pm because it's dark outside, for our skin, it's less than ideal. The cold, often low humidity weather mildly strips it of moisture, leaving it dry and dull.

To combat this, moisturising lotions and potions are our best friend. Lookfantastic's subscription beauty box edit for January is a great little haul that contains a bunch of products that'll shower your complexion in a wave of hydration to leave it glowing - including one celebrity-loved cleanser.

Containing six beauty buys - and one free sample - it's important to note that the LOOKFANTASTIC THE BOX: January Edit is made up of mostly deluxe-sized products, which are both ideal for trialling before investing in full sizes and for your travel bag. That being said, the box's worth is pretty impressive at £105.

As a Lookfantastic subscription box fan myself, the January edit is perhaps one of its best yet, especially if you love skincare with names like ELEMIS, Dr Paw Paw, This Works, Lancome and Peter Roth Thomas inside. Now, a bit about the box and its subscription model.

Costing £15 when you buy the box outright for the one month supply and £13 when you sign up for a full twelve month subscription. Each month Beauty Box subscribers will have six make-up, hair, skin and shower products to try out.

My review of LOOKFANTASTIC THE BOX: January Edit

I knew I was going to love this LOOKFANTASTIC THE BOX: January Edit when I saw it had one of my favourite cleansers included - albeit a travel size, but still just as golden. The ELEMIS Cleansing Balm (10g) melts make-up, dirt, pollution, SPF and more from your skin in one wipe and leaves it soft, supple and feeling unbelievably nourished.

With a blend of nine essential oils in its formula, the three-in-one cleansing balm - which goes from balm to oil to milky toner - also envelopes you in a heavenly mix of lavender, chamomile, eucalyptus and more. It makes cleansing your face feel like a cheeky spa-treatment. Great for those weekends away when you don't want to take your full sized tub with you.

Elsewhere in the box, you'll find the Perfect Legs Body Butter from This Works - a brand loved by Kate Winslet - which is great for little patches of dry skin that need a little bit of TLC. The texture is thick at first - which makes it feel really good quality and nourishing - but once rubbed in feels super light on the skin and leaves such a nice smell - thanks to its geranium and sweet orange essential oils.

With hemp extract, hyaluronic acid and shea butter, it leaves your skin super soft and feeling in better condition, which is always a win. My only gripe is that, with it being a small, travel-sized bottle, you couldn't use it regularly on your full legs or arms because you'd run out rapidly. Although having tried it a few times now, it's definitely one product I'll be investing in - I mean, a full-size tub isn't too out of reach at £28 from This Works.

To spruce up your skin throughout the day, the box also contains this hydrating - and sold out on the brand's website - face mist from Dr Paw Paw. Containing papayaluronic (papaya fruit extract with hyaluronic acid), niacinamide and neroli flower, the mist is a really nice refreshing boost that hydrates and moisturises the skin instantly.

It's also said to 'refine skin texture, boost hydration, and minimise excess oil'. While I've only seen it boost hydration, with a decent 50ml bottle, there's still a lot left to see if the additional points are true.

I will say that the scent isn't quite as strong as I was expecting but its quality is definitely a good contender for my usual Caudalie Beauty Elixir. For your lips, Sunbum's SPF30 Lip Balm is a hydration hero that transforms crusty, dry lips (something which embarrassingly ails me often).

While it's marketed as a sunscreen lipbalm, making it ideal for all the tropical holidays you have planned this year, it gave my lips moisture and diminished their dryness almost instantly. Plus, being coconut flavoured, it'll leave you smelling like a pina colada, which I love.

Not leaving out my precious locks this January, Philip Kingsley's Elasticizer, 40ml, is found inside. As a pre-wash treatment, the creamy conditioning formula is worth £12.50 (nearly the cost of the entire box) and gave my hair a lovely bounce after rinsing it out and leaving it to dry naturally. With claims that it'll 'hydrate dry hair, add shine and reduce frizz', I can confirm it does do that - although it won't completely eliminate frizz if your hair naturally has this texture.

The only negative I have about this product is, if you have long hair, the 40ml bottle will last you maximum two treatments. As someone with short hair, I managed to use up at least half on my first go. So be mindful of using it sparingly.

While I'm yet to try the Lancôme Génifique Serum Sachet, after testing out the Peter Thomas Roth FirmX Eye Gel I was slightly disappointed - I saw no changes to my eyes. Its description on Lookfantastic's website reads: "A fast-acting eye gel that instantly smooths the look of fine lines and puffiness", although after waiting the allocated five minutes I saw no changes in my faint but defined crows feet.

But maybe at 30 years old, I'm not the target demographic and, luckily, don't have as many wrinkles to play around with. Although my puffy eyes could have used the help.

A little bonus to help you beat the January blues, you'll receive a free welcome box worth £50 when you subscribe this month . Lookfantastic isn't the only beauty retailer with a beauty box subscription, with the likes of Glossybox sending out premium beauty buys monthly here for £13.50 for one month or £12.50 for a 12 month subscription. This month, their haul includes names like Pukka, Bare Beauty, Wander Beauty and more.

Not interested in a subscription model? Cult Beauty's The Routine Essentials Skin Edit has dropped and contains nine skincare products worth £250 from the likes of REN, Avene, Sunday Riley and more for £42.
