Iggy Pop is singing the praises of Tyler, the Creator.
On a new episode of the punk legend’s BBC 6 Music radio show, Iggy Confidential, he looked back on spending time with Tyler while they shot a Gucci campaign with ASAP Rocky directed by Harmony Korine.
“I’ve always liked Tyler,” Iggy said. “I did a day’s work with him once, and he would do what it takes to get attention. He’s also a genuine all-around song, dance, writer talent—a genuine old-school talent with a new-school approach.”
Ice Cube also saluted Tyler this week, describing the Chromokopia artist as one who’s “authentically themselves to the max.”
In an interview with HipHopDX, Cube said, “That’s the L.A. people don’t know about, ultra creative individuals who won’t conform to the culture of gangbanging. They gon’ be themselves. He reminds me of, like, The Pharcyde.”
Cube continued, “You gon’ always have those groups who gon’ stay down with their own style, their own flavor, and gon’ win with it. Because they’re not conforming, they’re not being what you want them to be. They’re being who they are and you gotta salute that.”
