Despite Katie Holmes always out in public as a mainstay of the Manhattan street style set, it’s rare that we actually see her make designated public appearances. Yet, given that it’s coming up to the holidays and a time for spreading joy, Holmes decided to bring her discernable style to the masses with an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

For the outing, the actress swapped her enviable off-duty uniform for something more glitzy to inspire our party season wardrobes for the months ahead. To do so, the 45-year-old looked to Australia’s king of skin, Christopher Esber.

The Sydney-based wunderkind, who has begun showcasing at Paris Fashion Week, already has a legion of celebrity acolytes thanks to his masterful draping and deconstruction work. These hallmarks were apparent in Holmes’ chintzy evening wear look.

The silhouette consisted of a slouchy one-shoulder top featuring a dropped oversized sleeve and a low-rise, straight-cut midi skirt. The set was made of a utilitarian Swiss cotton mesh adorned with hand-cut glass crystals designed to create “moments of unconventional beauty through contradicting ideas,” as per the brand.

To us, however, the concoction of asymmetry and contrasting textures made Holmes look like a festive trinket personified, which is the perfect mode of dressing to get you into the Christmas spirit.

Still, there’s something to be gleaned from the Dawson Creek’s star look that can be applied all year round. If you might’ve observed, the set actually combines two of this year’s biggest footwear trends; mesh and studding. The former was popularised through Alaïa’s covetable netted ballet slippers, while the latter has since emerged as a viral style thanks to pierced leather flats from Tory Burch.

Taking cues from your accessories to piece together an entirely new silhouette is only something Holmes is capable of convincing us to try. And thanks to this concoction, she’s ensuring the new year will get off on the right foot.

Holmes’ Christopher Esber set is currently available for pre-order. If you’re in need of a last-minute event look, shop the style below.
