Given the iconic status nineties thriller Cruel Intentions enjoys, all eyes are now on Amazon Prime's reboot series, which premieres on the streamer today (November 21).
The new series remains true to the original 1999 film's racy storyline which follows two manipulative step-siblings and their quest for power over their peers at school. The story was adapted for a modern audience from the 18th century novel Dangerous Liaisons, and the new series hopes to engross a brand new generation with the latest iteration.
Sarah Catherine Hook takes on the role of Queen Bee Caroline Merteuil in the TV series. While her character is new, she is essentially stepping into the shoes of Sarah Michelle Gellar who portrayed her cold-hearted predecessor, Kathryn Merteuil, in the original film.
Viewers diving into the series will no doubt want to learn more about Sarah's life off-screen. So what do we know about the 29-year-old star?
What has Sarah Catherine Hook been in?
Before Cruel Intentions, the actress already had a host of horror and thriller credits to her name. She is perhaps most recognisable for her role as Juliette Fairmont in Netflix series First Kill, portraying a vampire who falls in love with vampire hunter Calliope Burns (Imani Lewis).
Back in 2021, Sarah appeared in The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It. The film was inspired by a 1981 criminal case which saw defendant, Arne Cheyenne Johnson, claim he was innocent of murder because he was possessed by a demon.
In the film, Sarah plays Debbie Glatzel, Arne's partner. In real life, Arne and Debbie stayed together while he served his prison sentence, and they later married in 1985.
Alongside her upcoming role in Cruel Intentions, Sarah will also be starring in Season 3 of The White Lotus which has been filmed in and around Bangkok. The series is expected to air in the first half of 2025.
Sarah Catherine Hook's sexuality
Given she plays a lesbian character in First Kill, fans of the actress have been curious to know more about her personal relationships and her own sexuality off-screen. However, the star keeps her private life out of the spotlight.
Speaking about queer representation in First Kill, she said: "I know that both Imani and myself really wanted to get this right. What we love more than anything about this show is that their queerness was normal."
She continued: "It was never questioned, and it was even celebrated. So I'm very excited for queer audiences to see themselves in these characters."
What hobbies does Sarah Catherine Hook have?
Aside from her acting craft, her social media accounts reveal that she has also got an arty side.
In one picture posted on Instagram, Sarah shared a lifelike drawing of a pair of hands she had sketched, captioned: "Incomplete hands featuring incomplete hand."
Meanwhile on Twitter she revealed another talent. She posted a picture from a morning pottery class, during which she created a small, perfectly-formed pot.
"I’m sorry I’m so MIA all the time!!!! BUT KNOW THAT I LOVE YOU ALL SO FREAKING MUCH!!!!!!," she posted alongside the photo. "Here’s a pic from my pottery class this am."
