Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced on Tuesday that Islamic State's top commander for Iraq was killed in a military operation in the Hamrin Mountains in northeast Iraq, according to Reuters.
This region has been a known stronghold for the militant group, and the operation marks a significant blow to ISIS leadership in the country.
