Issa Rae says young people wanting to make it big in entertainment should sign up for the course that explores her career. Speaking with TMZ, the actress discussed the unique academic offering available for law students at Georgia State University College of Law.

“They did a legal life of Issa Rae… It’s all my business,” she detailed to the tabloid. “If you’re interested in any facet of the entertainment business, the real business, that’s the course.”

She continued to explain while she can be the subject of a collegiate-level course, teaching is not her calling, however, adding, “Anything for education, I’m with it.”

The course was announced earlier this year ahead of the fall 2024 semester. Described as the opportunity to delve into the legal aspects of Issa Rae’s career, it is taught by Mo Ivory, professor of practice and director of the Center for Entertainment, Sports and Intellectual Property. Issa Rae’s mother and brother made a visit in the first class while the Insecure creator herself has an in-person visit later in the semester.

“Issa Rae has long been at the top of my list of inspiring figures to study, so to bring her remarkable career into the classroom is a thrilling opportunity for both my students and me. We’ll explore her journey from YouTube to the big screen, delving into her on-camera achievements and the business and legal intricacies that fuel her success as a writer, producer, director, entrepreneur, and more,” explained Ivory.

Issa Rae is not the first celebrity to have their career chronicled with the course. Established by Ivory in 2019, law students have examined the legal life of Ludacris, Kandi Burruss, Steve Harvey, Rick Ross, and most recently the legal life of the Olympic Games where Professor Ivory surprised her students with a class trip to Paris.
