It Ends With Us Author Colleen Hoover Supported Blake Lively -- Now She's 'Carefully Choosing Not To Speak'

2 days ago 4

Colleen Hoover was quick to support Blake Lively when she first filed a complaint against Justin Baldoni in late December, but now she’s gone shockingly quiet — and there’s a reason!

According to a message in her private Facebook fan page called Colleen Hoover’s CoHorts, as reported by CBR on Thursday, the author penned a heartfelt message to her readers explaining her silence amid the It Ends With Us co-stars’ feud. It’s unclear exactly when the post was written, so which legal filings were out and known to the author, we can’t be sure. But it certainly addresses the high-profile controversy that has overshadowed the film — everything from the ongoing lawsuits to the initial marketing campaign, which many saw as insensitive.

She began by addressing the serious nature of the book, which she has a personal connection to, reportedly writing:

“Domestic violence has been something I have firsthand experience with. I wrote this book for myself and my mother. This book means the world to me. I will defend it with my soul.”

She continued:

“What is happening with the movie, that I do not own and cannot take control of, is not something I’m ‘ignoring’ but rather something I am carefully choosing not to speak on for so many reasons.”

She went on to note that while things can be easy to believe from afar, it doesn’t mean it’s the truth. She encouraged her followers to stop making assumptions about this “very, very, very serious and unfortunately public issue,” noting she has “hope that the legal system will take care of this.” She continued:

“I know it’s such an odd thing not to be talking about in here because it’s such a huge part of my career and my life, I am choosing, respectfully, to hold my tongue. This is such a delicate matter. I am not by any means saying I am ignoring it or you should ignore it, just please don’t do it in here or demand I do so.”

In the same group, she replied to a fan, sharing her biggest takeaway from this movie adaptation process, noting:

“99.999% of the time, you lose all rights to the film, and they can do with it whatever they want and change anything they want.”

In the future, she hopes to be more hands on with her work. While she doesn’t own the rights to the upcoming Verity film, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett — but her production company, HeartBones Entertainment, is a part of the project. And she’s also an executive producer on Regretting You, helping to give her “more control moving forward.”

While she’s staying silent now, this hasn’t always been the case. Throughout the promo for the romance movie, she largely sided with Blake by appearing with her instead of Justin (for the most part) as the cast and crew distanced themselves from the director. When Blake’s sexual harassment complaint dropped, she also spoke out, writing on Instagram:

“@blakelively, you have been nothing but honest, kind, supportive and patient since the day we met. Thank you for being exactly the human that you are. Never change. Never wilt.”

Innteresting that she’s choosing to back off now… Is she just hoping not to draw more attention to Justin’s claims? Is she trying to avoid being dragged into the drama? Or does she not know what to think anymore? What do U think, Perezcious readers? Tell us (below).
