Unforgotten has once again captivated audiences with its sixth series, currently airing on ITV. The much-loved drama has embarked on another thrilling narrative as the murder investigation of Gerry Cooper unfolds.

Gerry's remains were discovered on Whitney Marsh, and it was subsequently disclosed that he was the missing spouse of Juliet Cooper. She had been left in the dark about her husband's sudden disappearance, suspecting that figures from his past may have played a part.

However, it transpired that Gerry was leading a double life, having fallen into debt during the Coronavirus pandemic and living a web of lies. Yet, the identity of his killer remained a mystery, with numerous suspects under scrutiny.

The final instalment of the sixth series - available for streaming in full on ITVX - reveals the events of Gerry's fateful day and uncovers the 'true' perpetrator.

Initially, Marty is suspected due to his break-in at Juliet's residence, along with Asif Syed, who harboured resentment towards Gerry following the death of his young son due to damp conditions in one of Gerry's properties. However, both are exonerated, reports the Mirror.

The focus then shifts to a voicemail allegedly left by Gerry on the day of his demise, but it soon becomes apparent that the murderer must be behind the message. After investigating the call's location and other leads, suspicion falls on Juliet as the police grow increasingly wary of her.

Juliet confessed to having marital issues with Gerry on their final night together, leading to a violent altercation. In the midst of preparing a meal during their argument, Juliet revealed she accidentally stabbed Gerry as he attacked her. She claimed he bled out while she took refuge in the bathroom, and she later disposed of his body.

However, Jessica quickly noted discrepancies in Juliet's timeline that didn't align with the call logs on Gerry's phone. It became evident that Juliet was not telling the truth, but who was she protecting?

Eventually, Jessica and Sunny were able to interview Juliet's daughter, Taylor, and the truth came to light. Taylor admitted she had stabbed her father in the leg to prevent him from assaulting her mother. Upset by his daughter's actions, Juliet put Taylor to bed and told her that her father had gone to work as usual, without revealing his demise.

Thus, Taylor had inadvertently caused her father Gerry's death by stabbing him in the leg while defending her mother. However, since Juliet had removed her from the scene before she could witness the bleeding, Taylor remained unaware of Gerry's severe injury.

Jessica later received confirmation from the CPS that it would not be in the public interest to charge either Taylor or Juliet. Consequently, no arrests were made in connection with Gerry's death.

Unforgotten season 6 is now available to stream in full on ITVX. Episodes also air weekly on ITV1 every Sunday and Monday at 9pm.
