Jack Smith Resigns from DOJ

Special counsel Jack Smith has finished his work on two criminal investigations involving President-elect Donald Trump and formally resigned from the Justice Department (DOJ) on Friday.

News of Smith's resignation was shown in a court filing submitted by DOJ officials to U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon on Saturday afternoon, first reported by Politico's Josh Gerstein.

"The Special Counsel completed his work and submitted his final confidential report on January, 7, 2025 and separated from the Department on January 10," the third footnote in the filing states.
