Wake up, Avatar fans. We have updates on Avatar: Fire and Ash, which hits theaters later this year and serves as the third film in the franchise first brought to the big screen in 2009 by the three-time Oscar-winner, James Cameron.
In a new interview with Empire Magazine, Cameron told them that Avatar: Fire and Ash will feature "some really clever action set-pieces" and teases that it will be a heart-racer, "You can get your blood up in this movie."
Avatar: Fire and Ash lists a host of familiar faces in its cast list, including Zoe Saldana, Kate Winslet, Jemaine Clement, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, David Thewlis, Giovanni Ribisi, Oona Chaplin, Edie Falco, Cliff Curtis, Stephen Lang, and more, who will all return for another epic romp.
"What excites me as an artist who recently turned 70 and has kind of done all that stuff is not only the opportunity to get to do it again," Cameron tells Empire, "but to get to a level of character and intrigue you haven't seen before in an Avatar movie."
The director says that they're "starting to riff on it and twist it and turn it" in a way that's not been done before in the franchise because "if you're not making brave choices, you're wasting everybody's time and money."
Cameron is known for pushing the boat out in his pictures, but Avatar may just take the cake, and it sounds like Fire and Ash will be no different, with the director saying "You've got to break the mould every fricking time."
Though the plot details are staying firmly under wraps, it appears the audience can expect an element of surprise.Cameron tells Empire that the film is "in strong shape" and that they've "doubled the number of shots finished at this stage of the game than [they] had on movie two."
