The world's richest chef has been revealed

The world's richest chef, whose name might not ring a bell, is sitting on a fortune more than double that of culinary superstars Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver put together.

Despite having an impressive £164 million, Jamie Oliver only comes fourth in the global culinary rich list. Since emerging as 'The Naked Chef' in the late 90s, the Essex-born kitchen whiz has shot to worldwide fame. He dropped out of school at 16 to hone his skills in Paris and London’s finest dining spots.

His ascent was catalysed by a TV documentary in 1997 that led to his own show, rocketing him into the cooking stratosphere. It's his global chain of eateries and cookbooks dedicated to wholesome, home-cooked food that has fattened Oliver’s wallet significantly. Outshining Oliver, Gordon Ramsay sits comfortably as the third wealthiest chef globally, pocketing an extra £16 million.

Once hopeful for a football career before it was dashed by injury, Ramsay morphed from student to teacher in some of London’s most punishing restaurant kitchens, under tutelage from the likes of Marco Pierre White. Not only did he conquer the UK with his culinary prowess and TV charisma, but he also became a household name across the pond.

Who could forget the iconic scene where Ramsay sandwiched a slice of bread on each side of an underperforming chef’s head while making her declare, "I am an idiot sandwich"?, reports the Express. Despite the incredible success of the two British chefs, their net worth is dwarfed by the world's wealthiest chef, Alan Wong.

Wong, who has an estimated net worth of a whopping £880 million, made his name cooking Hawaiian food and popularising the fusion of local ingredients with traditional recipes. He even had the honour of cooking for US President Barack Obama in 2009. Like both Ramsey and Oliver, Wong expanded his culinary career to include restaurants, offering critically acclaimed gourmet cooking with a unique creative flair.

Despite their impressive incomes, Gordon previously shared how his six kids "won't see a penny" of it. He revealed in 2017 that he wants them to make their own way in life, just like he did. Gordon said: "It's definitely not going to them, and that's not in a mean way; it's to not spoil them. The only thing I've agreed with Tana is that they get a 25 per cent deposit on a flat, but not the whole flat," reports the Telegraph.

He added: "I've never been really turned on about the money. That's not my number one objective and that's reflected in the way the kids are brought up." Despite his humble upbringing, the father-of-six has strict rules for anyone wanting to attend his flagship restaurant in London. Gordon has a number of restaurants in the UK including his Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea, which was established in the capital back in 1998.

The restaurant's website states that it provides "unparalleled service and fine dining with an intimate ambience". Customers are asked to "avoid" wearing shorts, tracksuits and hoodies. It doesn't state if guests won't be allowed entry if they don't adhere to the dress code, but states: "We would like all of our guests to feel free to express their own individual style. However, we do ask guests to avoid shorts, tracksuits and hoodies. Smart trainers are fine. We know lots of our guests like to dress smartly which we appreciate! Ultimately we want every guest to feel at home."
