Jason Lee has been voted onto Stockton, Ca.’s, City Council after winning an election that was underlined with controversy and intrigue.

On Tuesday evening (Nov. 5), Lee was officially named a City Councilman once results from the election came in, with Lee winning the seat by a sizable margin over incumbent and Stockton’s Vice Mayor Kimberley Warmsley.

Lee will represent District 6, located on the south side of Stockton. On Wednesday morning (Nov. 6), the media maven took to Instagram to express his appreciation for the support he’s received during his campaign.

“Deeply honored to have earned the support and trust of my neighbors, the voters of my hometown, and you,” the 47-year-old wrote. “Now I begin the work of creating safer and stronger communities, improving our quality of life and charting our next chapter.”

He continued, thanking the city of Stockton, adding, “Heck, forget the next chapter. We will write a whole new book!” Lee, the founder of Hollywood Unlocked, faced opposition from sitting City Council members during his race, as he was denied funding for a youth pilot program earlier this year.
