Jay-Z Targets Judge in Attack on Accuser's Legal Team

The lawyer who has made rape allegations against Jay-Z was overly familiar with the judge in a previous high profile case, the rapper has claimed.

In a multi-million dollar extortion lawsuit in Los Angeles, Jay-Z's—real name Shawn Carter—lawyer, Michael T. Lifrak, alleged that the judge overseeing a lawsuit in the BP oil rig explosion case was seen jumping into Tony Buzbee's Aston Martin car during a break in the case.

Buzbee is representing over 200 people, both male and female, who are suing rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs for sexual assault.

One of those accusers claims that she was raped by Combs and Carter at a Video Music Awards after show party in New York in 2000.

On Sunday, Buzbee filed a claim on her behalf in a New York federal court against Carter and Combs.

In a multi-document response on Monday, Carter's legal team revealed that Carter is the anonymous celebrity who launched an extortion lawsuit against Buzbee in Los Angeles on November 14.

They attached a copy of the 236-page lawsuit, in which Bishop alleged that Buzbee was someone who wrongfully worked the legal system to his advantage.

The Los Angeles lawsuit recalls that Buzbee represented several victims of the 2005 explosion at BP's Texas refinery, which killed 15 workers and injured 180.

Carter's lawsuit states that on October 6, 2006, Judge Samuel B. Kent "entered a crucial order requiring BP's CEO to be deposed in the case. An anonymous source reported to the press that minutes after Judge Kent ordered the deposition, Judge Kent jumped in Buzbee's Aston Martin to go to lunch.

"Within weeks of Judge Kent's order, Buzbee settled his cases with BP."

The lawsuit goes on to allege that "in 2009, Judge Kent pled guilty to obstruction of justice and acknowledged that he had nonconsensual sexual contact with two women.

"Judge Kent was sentenced to 33 months in prison. Although four articles of impeachment were passed by the House of Representatives against Judge Kent, Judge Kent resigned before his trial in the Senate concluded."

According to a Library of Congress research guide, on May 11, 2009, Kent "was sentenced to thirty-three months in prison for lying to investigators about sexually abusing two female employees."

It was just one of numerous accusations against Buzbee contained in Carter's lawsuit, which seeks a jury to decide the damages Carter has suffered as a result of the rape accusation.

On Monday, Carter lifted his anonymity in the extortion lawsuit so that he could include it as part of his defense in the rape lawsuit that Buzbee has taken on behalf of a 37-year-old woman who alleges that she was raped by Carter and rapper Combs in New York in 2000.

Buzbee told Newsweek on Tuesday that the allegations about Kent were not true.

"What judge? Too friendly? You are reporting this kind of trash?" he asked.

He said he does not target celebrities.

"I take cases when people call. I pursue many hundreds of cases a year and I don't target anyone. Celebrities are a fraction of a fraction of who I represent and who we sue," he said.

Newsweek also sought comment on Tuesday from Carter's representative and Combs' attorney about the rape accusation.

Buzbee posted an Instagram message on Sunday in which he highlighted his military record and accused Carter of a campaign of "harassment" and "bullying" against Buzbee and his family.

Buzbee's lawsuit against Carter and Combs states that the then 13-year-old girl convinced a chauffeur to let her attend the VMA after-show party at a New York house on September 7, 2000.

She recognized several celebrities at the party and took a drink that immediately made her feel sleepy. She entered what appeared to be an empty bedroom, so she could lie down for a moment.

"Soon after, Combs entered the room, along with defendant Carter and a female celebrity ("Celebrity B"). Plaintiff immediately recognized all three celebrities," the lawsuit states.

She claims that she was raped by Combs and Carter before fleeing the house for a nearby gas station and calling her father to collect her.
