The recent episode of The Real Housewives of New York tackled some serious issues. One conversation between Erin Lichy and Jenna Lyons on the topic of abortion led to the other housewife opening up about getting the procedure done in her early 20s.
Both women supported each other in that moment. And after working through a rough patch in their friendship, Erin was clearly moved by Jenna opening up to her. RHONY fans applauded the duo for sharing their stories.
Jenna Lyons opened up about her past abortion to support Erin Lichy after emotional RHONY scenes
The topic came up after Erin gave an interview earlier in the November 26 episode to Glamour magazine about the “toughest decision” of her life. The RHONY star had just started college when she realized she was pregnant.
Erin and Jenna were seated together during the episode. And as the conversation progressed, the former J.Crew executive revealed that she had an abortion at 21 years old. She was struggling financially after having just moved to New York. It was a difficult decision, but having “no money,” Jenna felt she had no choice.
“It’s a really hard thing to go through,” Jenna shared.
The interview with Glamour had Erin reliving some of her past feelings. She also opened up to her father, who did not know that she had undergone the procedure. The real estate professional said she “felt ashamed because [she] felt like it was [her] fault.”
Both women moved on to marriages and children. Jenna has 17-year-old son, Beckett, with ex-husband Vincent Mazeau. Erin and husband, Abe Lichy, are parents to three children. They have Levi, nine, Layla, seven, and Elijah, four, and are expecting another baby.
It speaks to a larger topic of conversation, as it was revealed that one-in-four women in America have gotten an abortion. The episode really resonated with viewers.
