Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have officially reached a settlement in their divorce, marking the end of their high-profile marriage just five months after Lopez filed to dissolve their two-year union.
The couple, affectionately known as Bennifer, has agreed to divide their assets without spousal support, maintaining the goodwill that characterized much of their rekindled romance.
Lopez, 55, and Affleck, 52, came to an agreement that allows each of them to retain the individual wealth they acquired during their marriage.
Notably, the $61 million Beverly Hills mansion they purchased together remains on the market, with the terms of its sale kept confidential. As part of the settlement, Lopez will also revert to her maiden name, officially dropping "Affleck."
While their divorce won't be legally finalized until February 20, the settlement marks a significant milestone in what could have been a contentious process.
Notably, the pair did not sign a prenuptial agreement before tying the knot, leaving their substantial assets and earnings from the past two years potentially up for negotiation. However, both sides worked amicably to avoid any major disputes.
Lopez cited "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the divorce when she filed on August 20, 2024, the same date as their second wedding anniversary. Interestingly, she listed their date of separation as April 26, 2024, fueling speculation that the couple had been estranged for months.
A Complex and Public Journey
The dissolution of Bennifer 2.0 brings an end to one of Hollywood's most captivating modern love stories.
The two first dated in the early 2000s after meeting on the set of Gigli but called off their engagement in 2004. Nearly two decades later, they rekindled their romance, much to the delight of their fans, and married in 2022.
Despite their separation, Lopez and Affleck have continued to co-parent their respective children and maintain a professional relationship. The former couple collaborated on the production of Unstoppable, a film based on the inspiring true story of wrestler Anthony Robles.
Lopez has also addressed her divorce publicly, reflecting on the challenges of navigating personal heartbreak in the public eye. In an interview, she remarked, "I know I'm a good person. I know I'm a good mom. Some people just want to hate you to hate you, and none of that really matters."
While their marriage has come to an end, both Lopez and Affleck remain committed to their families and careers.
Lopez shares 16-year-old twins Emme and Max with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, while Affleck co-parents his three children-Violet, Seraphina, and Samuel-with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
As they move forward separately, Bennifer 2.0 remains a chapter that captivated the world, leaving a legacy of love, resilience, and the complexities of life under the spotlight.
