Jeremy Clarkson has revealed he is now facing a fresh blow after opening up on his "deteriorating" health condition that left him in need of heart surgery.

The 64-year-old Clarkson's Farm presenter said he was swimming in the Indian Ocean during a holiday when he started experiencing difficulties using the stairs, but after returning home he suffered a "sudden deterioration" so he went to see a doctor. He said he then went to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford via an ambulance, where they ruled out a heart attack after undergoing an electrocardiogram (ECG), blood tests and X-rays.

He was then taken to an "operating theatre" where after further checks doctors said he was "days away" from getting very ill, so within two hours he had a stent fitted. The device works to prevent future heart attacks by improving blood flow to the heart. After opening up on his medical ordeal, the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire host said he has now been issued with more worrying news as he took to Instagram to share that one of his dogs is currently "under the knife" after contracting pyometra - a serious and potentially life-threatening infection of the uterus that causes it to fill with bacteria and pus.

Sharing a photo of his dog on his feed, Jeremy wrote: "The poor thing is under the knife as we speak. She has pyometra. S**t week." Many fans shared their concern as they sent the presenter their best wishes. One wrote: "I'm really sorry, I hope she recovers." Another person added: "I hope next week goes well for you Jeremy, I feel your pain." One more added: "I work in a veterinary surgery and be assured she will be getting the best care x fingers crossed she will be home soon and appreciate you all even more. Hope everything goes well and keep us posted."

Someone else commented: "Aw it's always a massive worry but hopefully surgery is successful and she will make such a quick recovery, they bounce back much quicker than humans." A well-wisher said: "Oh bless her, my dog had this last year...she was nearly 9 and recovered well. Speedy Recovery."

While describing his own health issues, Jeremy wrote in his Sunday Times column: "It seems that of the arteries feeding my heart with nourishing blood, one was completely blocked and the second of three was heading that way." Talking about the procedure to have a stent fitted, Jeremy continued: "It wasn't especially painful. Just odd," adding that he has thought since: "Crikey, that was close." Jeremy also tried to make light of the situation as he admitted "wondering what water tastes like and if it's possible to make celery interesting" after his health scare. He already gave up smoking after he got pneumonia while on holiday in Spain.
