The hunt for another football mind to bear the burden of guiding the New York Jets into greener pastures continues.
New York is officially scheduled to interview Ron Rivera for the head coaching vacancy, per Tom Pelissero.
"The #Jets are scheduled to interview Ron Rivera for their head coaching job this week, per sources. In 13 seasons with Carolina and Washington, Rivera made the playoffs five times, including an appearance in Super Bowl 50. The first of many HC interviews to come in NYJ's search," Pelissero said on X.
This will be the first interview on the books for the head coaching job.
During his four seasons, he posted a 26-40-1 record and led the team to an NFC East title in 2020, despite finishing with a 7-9 record. Washington made one playoff appearance under his leadership, falling in the wild-card round.
Rivera was fired by the Washington Commanders last January after leading the club to a 4-13 record in 2023.
With nine more seasons under his belt as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers previous to that, he's recorded a 102-103-2 overall record.
Former Jets head coach Rex Ryan said on ESPN NY Radio Monday morning that he also expects to be in line for an interview.
"I believe I will," Ryan said in regards to a potential interview for a reunion. "But no, I have not had any conversations with anybody within the organization, but I believe I will. Look, they're not gonna bring anybody in I'm sure until after the season is done. This is the way Woody [Johnson] has always operated, and we'll see what happens once the season is over."
