JonBenet Ramsey’s Dad John Says Murder Case ‘Can Be Solved’ Given ‘Today’s Technology’

JonBenét Ramsey’s father, John Ramsey, insisted that his daughter’s murder case can be solved nearly three decades after her death.

“Given today’s technology, it can be solved. I’m convinced of it, if that technology is used,” John, 80, said about the case while appearing on the Tuesday, November 26, episode of CNN News Central. “That’s all we’re asking the police to do is use the latest technology. They’ve got to go outside. They don’t have the capacity. If they do that and we come up empty handed, then I’ll say, well, thank you, at least we tried. We tried everything that could be done. Right now we’re not doing that.”

John and his late wife, Patsy Ramsey, discovered that JonBenét was missing on the morning of December 26, 1996. The couple uncovered a ransom note, and John found JonBenét’s lifeless body in their home’s basement just hours later. It had been discovered that JonBenét, who was just 6 years old at the time, had been sexually assaulted before she was brutally murdered.

The case quickly made headlines, and the Boulder, Colorado, police viewed the Ramsey family as suspects. However, they were eventually cleared of any wrongdoing after DNA evidence was found in 2008.

Nearly three decades have passed since JonBenét was murdered, and John said that he’s hopeful Netflix’s new docuseries Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey will help further the investigation.

“This has not gone away from our life for 28 years,” John said. “We’ve still got to go on living.”

John also explained what kept him and Patsy, who died in 2006 following her cancer battle, motivated to find answers amid the investigation.

“The thing that got Patsy and I going again, early on was we had three other children that needed us desperately to be good, strong parents. And we used to call them pity parties when we both got down,” he explained. “We’d say, ‘OK, let’s not have a pity party here. Let’s get up off the floor and get moving again.’ And that kept us going and pushing ahead.”

The docuseries “scrutinizes the missteps of law enforcement and the media, highlighting the relatively straightforward measures that could potentially solve this haunting mystery,” according to the synopsis of Netflix’s website. “As the series unfolds, it poses a critical question: Will Colorado authorities finally take the necessary actions to bring JonBenét Ramsey’s killer to justice and offer her family the peace they’ve long sought?”

John appeared in the docuseries, and he looked back on the day JonBenét went missing in the trailer. “It was just … unbelievable,” he recalled of learning that his daughter had been murdered in their home.

The Ramsey patriarch has been a crucial part in pushing for the investigation forward, and an insider exclusively told In Touch that he thought the police could put more effort into finding out who killed JonBenét. “He believes that with new breakthroughs in technology, the case could be solved,” the source explained in August 2023.
