Kate Middleton nominated for award that Meghan Markle narrowly missed out on

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, is in contention for a prestigious award that Meghan Markle previously missed out on. It was announced today that Kate has been nominated alongside nine other candidates for TIME magazine's 2024 Person of the Year.

For nearly a century, the publication has recognised the individual or group who they believe has made the most significant impact globally over the past year. TIME highlighted that Kate's inclusion on the list follows her making "made international headlines this year and stirred a conversation about privacy and health for public figures."

This nomination comes after Meghan, Kate's sister-in-law, was also nominated for the award in 2018, the same year she married Prince Harry. However, Meghan did not win the award, which was instead given to persecuted journalists referred to as "the guardians".

The past year has been tumultuous for Kate, who underwent abdominal surgery in January and faced unfounded conspiracy theories when she withdrew from public view. She later disclosed that she had received a cancer diagnosis and had begun preventative chemotherapy treatment before slowly returning to public life, with appearances at Trooping the Colour, Wimbledon, and hosting her Christmas carol concert at Westminster Abbey last week , reports the Mirror.

Meghan Markle was also previously nominated for the award, but sadly didn't win

On Friday, Kate reflected on her challenging year during the service, stating that 12 months ago, she was uncertain about what the future held. The 42 year old, who has been gradually returning to public events after completing her cancer treatment about four months ago, was overheard on broadcast footage discussing with singer Paloma Faith: "I didn't know this year was going to be the year I've just had."

When Faith responded with "the unplanned", Kate agreed, saying: "The unplanned, exactly. But I think lots of people this year have had such challenging times."

This marked the fourth time the princess has hosted her event at Westminster Abbey, aiming to celebrate the positive qualities in many and bring festive cheer to the capital and associated events nationwide.

To win the prestigious award this year, Kate will face stiff competition from nine other nominees, including Kamala Harry, who lost her bid to become America's first female president, and billionaire Elon Musk. Other contenders include Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of deceased Russian dissident Alexei Navalny, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell.

The list also features controversial podcaster Joe Rogan, Mexico's first female president Claudia Sheinbaum, US president-elect Donald Trump, and billionaire Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The winner will be announced on Thursday, December 12.
