Katie Holmes is a busy woman, so when we spot her (yet again) looking as effortlessly chic as ever, we simply must pause to examine the anatomy of her outfits—in hopes of sourcing pointers for our own, of course. With her latest look, though, the actress takes an ingenious styling shortcut bound to make getting dressed a cinch, mixing divergent aesthetics in the process.

While out and about in New York City, Holmes, who is currently starring in Broadway’s Our Town, stepped out in a look that seamlessly merged conflicting styles of preppy officewear with evening leather.

All hailing from the brand Cinq à Sept, the ostensibly layered look was actually only compromised of just three pieces, thanks to a crafty top that comes pre-styled as a white collared shirt and cropped black sweater vest combination. Eschewing the conventional bottoms, she opted for a button-up, drop-waist vegan leather skirt that skimmed her shins.

To further show off her bold skirt, she tucked part of the undone shirt in for a personal touch. Her kitten heels brought a touch of colour with denim vamps and a tan leather slingback detail.

Without her signature nose ring, the actress decided on minimalist jewels with a simple gold bracelet.

Throw in some of Holmes’ tousled brunette waves, and you have a look that comes together with minimal effort and maximum payoff.
