Kellie Pickler Finds Legal Drama With Late Husband’s Family ‘Upsetting’: ‘She Just Wants It to End’

Kellie Pickler is in the midst of a bitter legal war with her late husband’s parents – and it’s taking a toll on her, a source exclusively tells In Touch.

“The whole ordeal is very upsetting to Kellie,” the source explains. “First, she lost her husband so tragically. Now, she’s fighting with his family. She just wants it to end.”

Kyle Jacobs – who Kellie, 38, married in January 2011 – died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the age of 49 in February 2023. When the country singer declined to serve as administrator of his estate, his parents, Reed and Sharon Jacobs, took over control.

Now, in court documents obtained by In Touch, Kellie says that Reed and Sharon “entered [her] home and obtained items of personal property after [Kyle’s] death.” She claimed that the coadministrators “have demanded – via a subpoena issued in the probate estate directed to [Kellie] – that [Kellie] deliver to the possession of their legal counsel,” according to the lawsuit.

Reed and Sharon’s subpoena included personal items of Kyle’s, including his gun collection, swords, Rolex watch, guitars, baseball cards, school awards, a piano and more.

The American Idol alum’s lawyer explained, “Included in the [list] are items that [Kellie] either does not have in her possession or over which right, title and possession are disputed.” In her suit, Kellie demanded that Reed and Sharon provide her with a list of the items they took from her home and asked the court to help resolve the situation.

Meanwhile, Kyle’s parents claim that Kellie has refused to turn over property to them. “[She is] presently in violation of a subpoena … issued to her for the return of the estate’s property,” they said in their response, while also denying that Kellie was unaware of where the items were located.

“[Kellie] and her counsel have provided conflicting information regarding the location and rightful possession of the items listed and, as set forth hereinabove, have admitted [Kellie] is in possession of several items of property of [Kyle].” They also insisted that they only visited Kellie’s home at the “express invitation” of the singer or her counsel.

Kyle’s cause of death was confirmed to be suicide in his autopsy report, which was completed in May 2023. The medical examiner noted that the songwriter had a history of “pseudoseizures [seizures caused by psychological factors], gastrointestinal bleeding, elevated liver enzymes, and chronic alcohol use.”

“One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still,’” Kellie told People in August 2023. “I have chosen to heed his advice. Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way. It has truly touched my soul and it’s helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers.”
