Kelly Campbell Out as Peacock Boss: Read Her Farewell Email

7 hours ago 7

Kelly Campbell is out as head of Peacock. She bid her staff goodbye in an email on Thursday, January 9, 2025. IndieWire has obtained that email; it is posted in its entirety below.

Campbell told employees she is “stepping down” and that NBCUniversal streaming boss Matt Strauss will announce a “new structure” in “the coming weeks.”

Prior to joining Peacock, Campbell was president of Hulu. At the time of her job transition, NBCUniversal still held a one-third share of Hulu, which is now wholly owned by Disney.

Peacock, which is still losing hundreds of millions of dollars each quarter, ended September 2024 with 36 million subscribers. We’ll get an update on its health when Comcast next reports earnings on January 30.

Mark Lazarus, the planned CEO of what we’re still (but not permanently) calling “SpinCo,” announced his senior leadership team on Thursday.

“As we embark on this journey to build a one-of-a-kind company, I am thrilled to be joined by such a talented group of leaders with the experience and expertise needed to make SpinCo a leading multimedia company from day one,” Lazarus said in a statement. “Together, we will capitalize upon our iconic media assets, chart a course for growth, and continue to attract additional talent as we build momentum toward the completion of the spin-off.”

Here’s that “talented group of leaders” (the ones with “the experience and expertise needed to make SpinCo a leading multimedia company from day one”): Val Boreland will be president of entertainment, joined by Keith Cocozza as chief communications officer, Brian Dorfler as chief human resources officer, Jeff Mayzurk as president, operations & technology, Kristin Newkirk as CFO of the TV networks, David Pietrycha as chief revenue and business officer, and Greg Wright as chief accounting officer and controller. They’ll all begin to focus on their new anticipated roles in April, Lazarus said.

SpinCo will be comprised of USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and Golf Channel, as well as ancillary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, and SportsEngine. The rest, like Peacock, NBC, Bravo, and the Universal studios and theme parks, will stay behind as part of cable/broadband provider Comcast. SpinCo is still awaiting regulatory and other customary approvals.

Here is Campbell’s internal email in full:

Hi all,

As the industry and company continue to evolve, so has the structure for Peacock at this phase of growth, and as such I will be stepping down as President.

Matt will share more in the coming weeks about the new structure for the Media Group, but in the meantime, I wanted to say what an honor and joy it has been to help build Peacock alongside all of you.

I am so proud of what we accomplished together — from unprecedented subscriber growth to groundbreaking experiences like the Olympics this summer — this team has proven time and again that you are the best in the business.

We’ve had undeniable momentum over the past few years, and as I pass the baton to the broader team, I know that you will continue this journey with the great foundation we built together.

Thank you for everything.

Best,
Kelly
