Kelvin Fletcher's rocky marriage - split over jealously to family life on farm

Kelvin and Liz Fletcher have been married for nearly 10 years and share four children together but they admit their relationship hasn't always been wedded bliss

Emmerdale legend Kelvin Fletcher and his actress wife Liz have opened up about their marriage, saying the last 10 years haven't always been easy.

The couple present Fletchers' Family Farm on ITV and met when they were both eight years old. However, they didn't get together until later in life when they reunited in 2009 before then tying the knot in a ceremony at London's One Mayfair six years later.

But Kelvin said the couple have had to work hard at their marriage. “Work hard, like anything in life. You've got to put the hard work in. You take your vows," he told Amelia Singer’s podcast Ameliarate Through Wine.

“You got to take those seriously for better or for worse. And in sickness and in health. And that is it. You know, there's times through life, the colour of life, the variety of life you'll get all of that.”

He added: “ In the testing times you’ve got to have faith in what you are doing, and why you decided to take those vows, and see it through, as simple as that.

During their 14-year romance, the couple had ups and downs and briefly split in 2010. But they are currently stronger than ever, and are now the stars of Fletcher’s Family Farm on ITV. Liz also spoke about why the pair connect so much, and said they were very much a team.

She said: “Just try and marry someone you like. That's a good start. I think you have to laugh together, work your dreams out together. Don't hold each other back. Just pursue what you need to do but do it as a team.”

Kelvin also spoke about his romantic gestures to win Liz over on their first date, saying how he kept the business card from the restaurant. He said: “Fast forward 11 years to the night before our wedding day, I kept it with a view that one day, I would give it to Liz because I knew she was the one.”

He said the night before their wedding he gave it as a wedding gift and had written on the back: “I can’t wait to marry you.”
