Kevin Feige talks MCU’s future with Fantastic Four, X-Men, and Avengers: Secret Wars

The MCU is heading into the future with a new class of superheroes. One of the most important factions is the Fantastic Four, who are set to make their MCU debut in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. At Disney’s APAC Content Showcase in Singapore, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that filming on First Steps is nearly complete. After the quartet’s arrival, Feige expects the supergroup to play an important role in the MCU, especially within the Avengers movies.

“Finally, [we’re] bringing Marvel’s First Family into the MCU,” Feige said (via Deadline). “They wrap next week, the movie comes out next summer, and then all those characters go right into the next Avengers movies, so I’m very excited for the future of the Fantastic Four.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps kicks off the MCU’s Phase Six and stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing. Directed by Matt Shakman, First Steps opens in theaters on July 25, 2025.

After the Fantastic Four, all attention will turn toward the arrival of the X-Men. Feige called having the rights to the X-Men a “dream.” The Marvel Studios boss expects some mutants to appear in the MCU over the next few movies. It all builds up to Avengers: Secret Wars, which will kick-start Marvel’s mutant saga.

“I think you will see that continue in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men,” Feige said. “Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.”

This year welcomed Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine into the MCU in Deadpool & Wolverine. Prior to that, Patrick Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, while Kelsey Grammer’s Hank McCoy showed up in The Marvels post-credits scene. Additionally, Ms. Marvel revealed Iman Vellani’s Kamala Khan was a mutant.

In May, Now You See Me 3’s Michael Lesslie was tapped to pen the untitled X-Men movief or Marvel. X-Men does not have a release date, but it will come sometime after Avengers: Secret Wars on May 7, 2027.

James Gunn teases Peacemaker season 2, Lanterns, and his next DC project

The new DC Universe (DCU) from James Gunn and Peter Safran will begin next month with the arrival of the animated TV series Creature Commandos. The DCU is nearly a complete reset from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), the previously shared universe from 2013 to 2023. In an interview with IGN, Gunn clarified that everything seen or spoken about in Creature Commandos or any project released after that is canon in the DCU. However, there is one major exception.

Gunn said, “The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League … which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker." The scene in question happens at the end of Peacemaker season 1, when the Justice League, including Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and Ezra Miller’s Flash, are late arrivals to the fight against the Butterflies.

3 sci-fi movies on Hulu you need to watch in November 2024

You may have noticed that Hulu's primary sci-fi franchises revolve around three signature films from 20th Century Studios: Alien, Predator, and Planet of the Apes. Ordinarily, we would try to avoid using two films from the same franchise when picking the three sci-fi movies on Hulu that you need to watch in any given month. But for November, we had to go with two Alien movies, because the older one is a true classic that's back on Hulu after an extended absence, while the other is a hit from summer 2024 that's making its streaming debut this week.

To change things up, our non-Alien pick of the month is a sci-fi comedy from writer and director Mike Judge of Beavis and Butt-head and Office Space fame.

25 years later, this enjoyably bad James Bond movie is still not enough

Barbara Broccoli, the longtime producer of the Bond franchise, recently revealed that the search for the next 007 is underway. Bond is one of those IPs that will never die, no matter how much time passes in between projects or how good or bad they might be. Indeed, the franchise is full of undeniably high peaks, like Goldfinger and Casino Royale, and embarrassingly low valleys, like Moonraker and Die Another Day. Most of Pierce Brosnan's tenure as 007 is somewhere in between, with his four-film stint as the spy with a license to kill offering an uneven blend of well-executed action and unadulterated and quite unintentional camp.

Of his four movies, the third, Michael Apted's The World Is Not Enough, is the hardest to pin down. On the one hand, it's absolutely awful, with a ridiculous story that embraces the worst aspects of the franchise and clumsy action sequences that have aged like milk. And yet, the film is so shamelessly entertaining and deliriously silly that it's hard not to fall under its spell. On its 25th anniversary, let's look back at the complicated legacy of The World Is Not Enough and discuss how this deliciously awful movie is still one of the most purely enjoyable James Bond outings.
