Kitten's Sleeping Position Goes Viral: 'Nap Took Him'

3 hours ago 6

A cat owner from Houston, Texas, shared a video of her kitten's unusual sleeping position and internet users can't cope with how cute it is.

The viral clip shared on TikTok in November, under the username @jordyn.2.0, shows the tabby kitten sleeping upside down, with his legs on the couch backrest and his head hanging down, buried in the side pillows. "I wish I could sleep this hard," reads layover text in the clip. And a caption says: "She is knocked out."

Cats are notoriously agile creatures, known for their incredible ability to twist and turn their bodies in ways no other animal can. Their spines, with 53 vertebrae and the collarbone not directly attached to the other bones, allow them to move more freely, giving them a range of motion that is unique to their species, according to Dr. Jess Kirk via Vet Explains Pets.

Felines sleep in many different positions, and each one can say a lot about the way the cat is feeling, Vicki Jo Harrison, president of The International Cat Association, previously told Newsweek.

If your cat sleeps curled up in a ball, they are trying to conserve their body heat. Instead, if they look like a loaf of bread while asleep it's probably because while they are trying to get some rest they're making sure they're ready to spring into action if needed.

When cats sleep with their bellies up, it's because they feel happy and secure with their surroundings, so much that they're comfortable exposing their most vulnerable part. You can read more about cats' sleeping positions here.

A Catster article reviewed by Dr. Amanda Charles says that healthy adult cats sleep an average of 12 to 16 hours per day, and even more when they are kittens or seniors.

Usually they take multiple naps during the day, lasting no more than an hour, and they are most active during sunrise and sunset, because that's when their ancestors in the wild would go hunting.

The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 3.9 million views and 625,200 likes on the platform.

One user, Cantbrainrightnow, commented: "He didn't take a nap, the nap took him."

Logieisabooboobear said: "THIS is how you sleep when you don't have bills to pay."

PRIESTT added: "I tried sleeping that way, but my neck hurt when I woke up."

Newsweek reached out to @jordyn.2.0 for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
