Lara Croft Will Keep On Raiding in Tomb Raider Season 2

Just two weeks after its premiere, Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft will get to tell more of its hero’s story.

Netflix and Powerhouse Animation’s anime adaptation of the action-adventure series got the green light for season two. The next chapter in Lara’s (Haley Atwell) show will see her reunite with Sam Nishimura (Karen Fukuhara), her BFF from the Survivor trilogy who briefly appeared in the first season. According to the press release, the duo embark on a quest to recover a set of stolen African Orisha masks. Along with uncovering the power and “dark secrets” of the masks, Lara and Sam will go up against a “dangerous and enigmatic billionaire” that wants the mask for her own ends.

Showrunner Tasha Huo explained that Legend’s first season was about “Lara embracing how her dad dealt with grief” via isolation. For season two, we’ll see her build out a stronger support system: “As we get into season two,” she teased, “Lara [will] go from isolated hero who only wants to do things on her own — a lone wolf — to realizing, ‘Actually, I have this really cool team behind me.'” Beyond Sam (who hasn’t had a full appearance in the games since Tomb Raider 2013), that team presumably more Jonah, Camilla Roth, and Zip, who all appeared in the first season.

Tomb Raider’s first season was a pretty solid video game show that seemed to have a lot of fun hopping around the globe and molding Survivor Lara into the original, badass version from the earlier games. If you haven’t watched it, give it a shot, both because Powerhouse’s Lara is a complete adrenaline freak (in a good way), but also because it’ll be a while before we see or here more about season two and the next mainline game.
