Oasis legend Liam Gallagher had a feisty exchange with a fan over musical influences.
After a fan made an unflattering comparison between The Beatles and Oasis on Twitter/X, the 52-year-old rocker clapped back with a typically bold response.
Following a tweet about Manchester City's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool, Gallagher faced a remark suggesting Oasis "wasn't all that". One user provocatively commented: "Oasis wasn't all that either mate let's be honest the Beatles were a better band just saying as you were sausage."
Gallagher, never one to shy away from controversy, fired back with a blunt retort: "We p*** all over the Beatles," he declared.
Other fans chimed in, highlighting how The Beatles had significantly influenced both Liam and Noel Gallagher, with the brothers having performed covers of tunes by Paul McCartney and John Lennon during their solo gigs.
Oasis themselves have paid homage to the Liverpool legends with renditions of tracks like I Am The Walrus and Helter Skelter.
Liam's brother Noel teamed up with Paul Weller for a rendition of All You Need is Love in 2007, while Liam performed versions of I Am The Walrus at live performances earlier this year.
A fan challenged Liam with the question: "Weren't you the Beatles and Lennon obsessed huh?" to which he shot back: "Yeah still am but not as much as I am with Oasis we rule."
He brushed off any implications about Oasis's success being tied to The Beatles, firing back with: "Corse we would have what you talking about Willis."
Gallagher's passion for the Fab Four was undeniably clear last year when he praised their final song 'Now and Then' with enthusiastic admiration, noting on social media: "Now n Then absolutely incredible biblical celestial heartbreaking and heartwarming all at the same time long live The Beatles LG x."
It comes as fans of the band are still reeling after finding out the origins of Oasis' name, The Mirror previously reported. The story behind how Oasis got their name is linked to a lesser-known Madchester band (a term for the musical and cultural scene in Manchester in the late 1980s) that had its own share of success.
It turns out Oasis may owe their moniker to an Inspiral Carpets tour poster – a band that Noel Gallagher was involved with before joining forces with his brother Liam.
A tweet from Twitter /X shed light on the band's naming history, stating: "Before joining his brother Liam's band, Noel Gallagher was a roadie for the Inspiral Carpets. An Inspiral Carpets gig at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon was an inspiration for their name..." This revelation has left many Oasis fans pondering what might have been if Noel hadn't been "fired" by Inspiral Carpets.
