A tribute made in memory of Liam Payne has been unveiled almost three months after the One Direction singer tragically passed away, leaving fans in floods of tears
Liam Payne, the late One Direction star who tragically died at the age of 31 in October 2024, has been honoured with a "beautiful" tribute. The singer fell from the third floor of a hotel, suffering "multiple traumatic injuries" that led to "internal and external haemorrhage."
But now, almost three months after his untimely death, Clevedon Pier unveiled a plaque dedicated to Liam for a poignant reason. The pier was a significant location for Liam and his former bandmates - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Malik - as they filmed parts of their music video for 'You and I' there on March 25, 2014 , reports the Mirror.
The official account for Clevedon Pier shared a photo of the commemorative plaque on X, formerly known as Twitter. The inscription reads: "Remembering Liam Payne – One Direction. 29.08.1993 – 16.10.2024."
It also features lyrics from the band's song, 'Walking in the Wind': "If you're lost just look for me, you'll find me in the region of the summer stars."
In their post, Clevedon Pier stated: "We are pleased to share that there is now a plaque in memory of Liam Payne on Clevedon Pier. The beautiful plaque is inscribed with lyrics from one of Liam's favourite songs. @onedirection recorded their award winning video You and I on #ClevedonPier."
The post, racking up over 2,000 likes, sparked an outpouring of love from Liam's fans, with one fan sharing: "Beautiful! "
Another touched follower penned: "You made me cry but this is such a good gesture thank you so much for him, his family and friends," while a third admirer added: "This is beyond beautiful and so mindful. Thank you very much."
A fourth fan gushed: "Beautiful! A perfect tribute to Liam and the perfect choice of song. Thank you from a fan."
The new memorial will no doubt come as a welcome boon for fans of the late singer, after his former pal Roger Nores, filed a defamation lawsuit against Liam's bereaved dad, Geoff.
Nores himself has become a focus during the probe into Liam's tragic death, and sparked controversy as five individuals, including Mr Nores were charged with manslaughter by Argentine authorities who allege he "abandoned" Liam and neglected his duty of care.
Yet in a lawsuit submitted in Florida on Wednesday, Mr Nores asserts that claims sworn by Liam's father to Argentine officials were "false, contained material omissions, and many parts were not based on personal knowledge". The contentious claims suggest Payne was under the watchful eye of Mr Nores and girlfriend Kate Cassidy "due to his addictions", the suit reports - something he strenuously denies.
The court documents allege that Mr. Nores' connection with the departed musician was misrepresented, stressing their bond as a "dear mutual friendship" while firmly stating he "never had a legal duty of care" towards him. The lawsuit has provoked a fiery backlash, shocking scores of supporters.
One decried on Twitter (X) last Friday: "#JusticeForLiam #westandwithgeoffpayne. The whole world can see the type of person that Roger is. To sue the grieving father of a supposed friend! ! We will support Geoff all the way."
