Liam Payne’s girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, debuted a new tattoo just two months after the former One Direction star passed away in October.
Kate, 25, shared a photo of the angel wings tattoos on her index and middle fingers to honor her late boyfriend via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, December 22. The model hugged her dog as the two angel wings appeared right above her knuckles, simply captioning the post with a red heart emoji.
The “What Makes You Beautiful” musician was 31 years old when he died after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Kate — who had been dating the singer since 2022 — had been vacationing with Liam for two weeks, but she returned home just days before his passing.
One week after his death, she broke her silence about the heartbreak in a lengthy post on Instagram.
“My heart is shattered in ways I can’t put into words,” she wrote in an October 23 statement featuring photos of the duo. “I wish you could see the huge impact you’ve had on the world, even as it feels so dark right now. You brought so much happiness and positivity to everyone — millions of fans, your family, friends, and especially me. You are incredibly loved.”
In addition, she revealed that she and the “Story of My Life” artist had made major plans for their future. “A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together,” Kate added. “I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it. It said, ‘Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444.'”
Kate later attended the U.K. native’s funeral on November 20 alongside his family and former bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. It was the first time the men had all reunited since Zayn, 31, left the band in 2015 (One Direction then announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016 as the artists pursued solo careers).
The group continued to honor their fallen bandmate, with Zayn kicking off his very first solo tour with a message dedicated to Liam.
After Zayn exited the stage, a tribute came up on the screen that read, “Liam Payne. 1993-2024. Love you bro,” along with a red heart. Zayn kicked off the tour in Leeds, England, on November 23. The Stairway to the Sky tour was supposed to begin on October 23 in Washington D.C. with a string of American dates, but the former One Direction singer chose to postpone the North American leg after Liam’s October 16 death.
“Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour,” Zayn wrote on Instagram. “The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days. Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for your understanding.”
Although the “PILLOWTALK” singer had lost touch with his bandmates over the years, he was quick to post a personal tribute one day after the dad of one’s death. “Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me,” he wrote. “I can’t help but think selfishly that there was so many more conversations for us to have in our lives.”
He continued, “I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. I was missing home as a 17 yr old kid [and] you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let me know you were my friend and that I was loved.”
