Lily Allen, 39, candidly revealed her guilty pleasure on the podcast she shares with pal Miquita Oliver, and it involved her kids.

Lily shares two daughters with her ex-husband Sam Cooper, and co-parents the girls - Ethel Mary, 12, and Marnie Rose, 11 - with him, along with her new husband, Stranger Things star David Harbour, 49.

Speaking to Celebrity Gogglebox’s Miquita on their BBC Sounds podcast Miss Me?, Lily admitted that getting a break from the girls gave her plenty of joy. She and David share a house in Brooklyn, New York, and Lily’s trips back home to London are appreciated by the busy mother.

“Leaving my kids,” Lily responded when asked about her guilty pleasure by her podcast co-host.

“Oh yeah, because it is pleasurable?” Miquita questioned. Lily then explained that after long periods of parenting by herself, getting away for a while was a bit of relief.

“Sometimes when I've been in New York with the kids for a month and David hasn't been around and I know I've got a trip planned somewhere I'll get out of the door and just… ahhh” the pop star said as she let out a huge exhale.

Despite the relief, Lily admitted: “But then I'll get out the door and half an hour later I feel guilty. Not even half an hour, 20 minutes, maybe 10, maybe five, maybe as soon as I walk across the threshold I'm enjoying myself but I feel guilt.”

However, Lily and Miquita were quick to point out how Lily’s busy career was for the good of the family. “How dare I be so selfish as to try and do some work and set up a flat here for us,” Lily joked after her friend pointed out how her daughters benefitted from their mum’s trips away.

Online, some fans were quick to attack Lily for her guilty pleasure, and suggested that she might risk hurting her kids when they grow up and hear her thoughts. "I feel sorry for her kids. She obviously doesn’t enjoy being a mother and one day they will read all this stuff," one person said.

"This woman makes my blood boil. Thank goodness I had a brilliant Mum and not a narcissist," said a second.

Although Lily often catches a lot of flack for her very bold words about parenting, marriage, and sex, she pulled on heartstrings back in September when she touched on her tragic childhood while speaking about her own choice to have children.

Lily is the daughter of actor Keith Allen and producer Alison Owen, and has been open about how Keith wasn’t the most present or caring dad while she was young and when she was starting out in her music career. Talking about her own status as a mum, Lily hinted that this lack of closeness in her own family encouraged her to start her own.

"I think I had children for all the wrong reasons really because I was yearning for unconditional love, which I haven't felt in my life since I was a child,” she told Miquita on their podcast, adding, “And also my career was at such a high speed, you know high pressure and I'm a people pleaser and I felt like very overwhelmed by what was happening."
