Michael Lohan, the father of actor Lindsay Lohan, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his estranged wife, Kate Major.

Newsweek has reached out to an attorney for Michael Lohan via an online contact form for comment.

Why It Matters

Michael Lohan has been arrested in connection with alleged domestic violence relating to Major multiple times. He was arrested on allegations that he assaulted her in 2020 in Southampton, New York, with a police statement at the time saying that he had been "verbally and physically abusive" toward her.

Lohan and Major got engaged in 2010 and married in 2014. Major filed for divorce in 2018 and petitioned for custody of their two children, Landon and Logan. She filed one month after she was arrested for allegedly throwing a candle at Lohan and cutting his arm, though prosecutors did not file charges, citing insufficient evidence.

What To Know

In an email shared with Newsweek, the Harris Country Sheriff's Office said that on Friday, February 21, Major was at a medical appointment when she saw Lohan in the building's parking lot.

A 911 call was then placed as she was "concerned he was following her." Major told deputies that Lohan had flipped her out of a chair at their residence a few days earlier. She reported pain and discomfort and a female deputy reported seeing bruising on her body.

Lohan was then arrested at his home "without incident," and is now being held on a charge of Continuous Family Violence on a bond of $30,000, as per the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Lohan has been arrested for alleged or suspected domestic violence involving Major multiple times and the relationship has been marked with conflict.

He was arrested on October 25, 2011, and then later released on $5,000 bail and ordered not to have any contact with Major. On October 27, 2011, he was taken into police custody after contacting her.

Lohan and Major temporarily lost custody of their children in 2015, when a video emerged of them fighting in front of their children. His mother, Marilyn Lohan, was granted temporary custody.

Lohan was previously married to Dina Lohan from 1985 to 2007; they had four children, Aliana, Dakota, Michael Jr., and Lindsay. Tensions within the family after Lindsay became a movie star were public and well documented.

Michael Lohan has been arrested and convicted over a number of other crimes.
