Lisa Kudrow has shared a touching story about discovering a note from her late co-star Matthew Perry tucked away in a cookie jar he gifted her from the set. Tragically, Perry, famed for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the iconic US sitcom, passed away on October 28, 2023, at the age of 54 due to the "acute effects of ketamine".

While speaking on The Drew Barrymore Show, 61 year old Kudrow reminisced about the sentimental cookie jar gift, saying: "Matthew gave that to me at the end of our last episode." She continued: "And I had recently found the note that he had in it for me." Kudrow confessed she hadn't looked inside the jar until recently, adding: "I hadn't opened it up or looked inside of it. But yeah, he did. He had a note in there and I forgot about it. Timing's everything."

Following Perry's untimely death, his Friends co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and Kudrow expressed their heartbreak in a joint statement, describing themselves as "utterly devastated" and emphasising that they were "more than cast mates. We are a family".

The Friends cast had famously reunited in 2021 for a special episode, marking their first group appearance since the show concluded its decade-long run in 2004, having cemented its status as a cultural touchstone.

In the wake of Perry's passing, an investigation revealed a "broad underground criminal network" that exploited Perry during a relapse into addiction in autumn 2023, according to prosecutor Martin Estrada during a press briefing last year.

Perry, who was battling depression and anxiety, became ensnared by addiction to intravenous ketamine, falling prey to "unscrupulous doctors who saw Perry as a way to make quick money", Mr Estrada disclosed.

The star was candid about his struggles with addiction and even established a sober living facility to aid others facing similar battles. Following his untimely passing, a foundation was created in his honour to assist those grappling with substance abuse. Five individuals were subsequently charged in relation to his death in August of the previous year.
