A report from PWInsider Elite claims that WWE is exploring the possibility of a blockbuster showdown between Paul and Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41.

However, this is still very much in the early stages of planning, and nothing has been finalized yet.

While it's assumed that Gunther would defend his title at the event if he retains it leading up to WrestleMania, creative ideas for the card are still in flux.

In fact, there have already been shifts in the plans for Paul himself, with an initial pitch for him to face John Cena at WrestleMania reportedly receiving significant pushback.

Paul's WWE status seemed uncertain following his retirement announcement in December 2024, after the birth of his first child. Fans wondered if this would mark the end of his wrestling career.

However, a surprise twist came during the January 6 Netflix premiere of WWE Raw, where Paul made a dramatic return.

In a pre-taped segment, he officially confirmed his place on the Raw roster and boldly declared his intentions to become a World Champion.

WWE's partnership with Netflix, aiming to feature top stars on Raw to drive viewership, has also ensured that Paul's massive mainstream following—boasting over 23 million subscribers on YouTube—will keep him in the WWE spotlight heading into the big event.

Meanwhile, Gunther has been a dominant figure since capturing the World Heavyweight Championship, having established himself as one of the most formidable heels on the Raw roster.

Though absent from the January 6 episode, he was still very much part of the conversation, as CM Punk called him out following his victory over Seth Rollins.

Gunther's previous intense words toward Paul—promising to "slap that stupid smirk" off his face if they ever faced off—suggest a potential clash between the two could be highly personal and heated.

WrestleMania 41 is scheduled for April 19-20 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and the excitement surrounding potential matchups is building.

While the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship picture remains up in the air, there are rumors circulating about a potential Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena bout, as well as speculation around Gunther's future title defense.

Although WWE is still in the early stages of creative planning, the idea of a World Heavyweight Championship match between Gunther and Paul is being seriously considered, though it's far from set in stone.
