Lorraine Kelly has shared her heartbreak as families are forced to turn to baby banks.
The TV star, 64, and mum to daughter Rosie is fronting a new campaign, Lorraine's Big Baby Bank Appeal to help provide essential items for struggling families ahead of Christmas. "I was so sad to hear of the stories of parents having to turn to baby banks for all kinds of basics from nappies to cots and clothes," she said.
The Scottish broadcaster added: "Not just people struggling because they can’t find work, but those in employment who don’t earn enough to give their babies all that they need through no fault of their own. It’s wonderful that baby banks are there to give support and dignity but how I wish we didn’t actually need them. I know our wonderful viewers will help."

Supermarket chain Morrisons have also backed Lorraine's campaign and have installed 497 donation points across their stores for two weeks.
"I met a lot of the parents, one of whom needed help when she was very young and had her daughter. And then she donated to the baby bank herself when she got back on her feet," Lorraine said, adding: "She’s now pregnant and lost her job so needs their help again. I also donated some of the clothes and equipment that Billie has grown out of and helped sort out some of the little outfits and blankets donated."
The new grandmother admits her granddaughter Billie is "so lucky" to have two parents who are able to cater to her needs. She said: "It’s so important that babies are fed and clothed properly and given the best start in life. My granddaughter Billie is so lucky to have two working parents who can give her all she needs.
"Billie is the light of my life and thriving thanks to the love and care of Rosie and her Steve." Lorraine was unable to contain her excitement when Rosie gave birth to her first grandchild and is making the most of having the little one around. "They are brilliant parents, I love having them to visit and getting lots of cuddles."
Lorraine's Big Baby Bank Appeal launches on Monday at 9am on ITV1 and ITVX.
