Max, 36, has been recovering - and is now set to spend Christmas in hospital - after doctors uncovered a string of issues relating to his heart. The diagnoses came just two years after bandmate and close pal Tom Parker tragically lost his life to an incurable brain tumour.
Medical professionals were luckily able to catch the problems with Max's heart early after he went to the hospital after feeling unwell. After a thorough examination by doctors, Max has now said he will have to have surgery before he can even be considered to be released.
Sharing the update with fans, Max shared a touching post to reveal he was "really unwell". However, Maisie was quick to share her love and support for her partner, being one of the first commenters to write: "Love you, Max."
In his heartbreaking statement, Max penned: "Hey everyone, yesterday I felt really unwell and was taken in to hospital. Unfortunately after some tests they’ve found that I have some issues with my heart.
"I have a lot more tests to determine the extent of the problems and what surgery I will need to get me back on my feet," he added. "It’s gonna be a difficult few weeks/months… and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned."
Max went on to pay tribute to his loved ones, including Maisie and her family, as well as his own clan before finishing: "I'm 100% in the best place." He added that he was thrilled to have had his heart conditions picked up early and believed himself to be "very lucky" that the issue was caught in time.
Maisie and Max first laid eyes on each other when both competed on BBC competition Strictly Come Dancing in 2020, becoming good friends during the course of the programme. However, sparks soon began to fly and the couple went official with their romantic relationship two years later.
Fans had been worried about the 13-year age gap between the couple, but both Maisie and Max have slammed criticism of their ages, adding that people will always have reservations. In an interview with The Sun's Fabulous magazine in February, she insisted: "If it wasn't that, it would be something else."
