Majority of Voters Say 2024 Was Most Important Election of Their Life: Poll

The majority of American voters say the 2024 election was the most important presidential cycle of their lives, a new poll shows.

A YouGov poll conducted on Wednesday found that 76 percent of Americans felt this year's election was either "somewhat more important" or "much more important" than previous years.

It has now been announced that former President Donald Trump will be the U.S.' next and 47th commander in chief, after securing more than 270 Electoral College votes.

His opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris had secured only 224, while Trump claimed victory over the swing states of Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

This came after a different YouGov poll showed more Americans thought Harris would win the election.

As this year's presidential cycle was looking like it would be an incredibly close election, Pennsylvania was an important state in the race, offering one of the candidates 19 Electoral Votes.

The poll, which surveyed 2,422 Americans, showed that it was felt by more Americans in the Northeast and Midwest that this election was particularly important—regions that include both Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

It was also predominantly women who felt the 2024 election was much more important than any other presidential cycle in their lives.

Women's rights had been an ongoing point of discussion throughout this year's election race, with a particular focus on their access to abortion and healthcare.

There was also a noticeable gender gap in the early voting data, with more women than men across the U.S. going to the ballots ahead of Election Day.

The two parties naturally had different concerns going into the election, but it was clear that American voters collectively were most concerned about the state of the U.S. economy, as it was ranked as the most pressing issue to voters in a Pew Research survey.

Among voters supporting the former president, 93 percent felt the economy was most important, with a high proportion feeling immigration and violent crime were other leading issues.

Harris supporters were more concerned about healthcare, Supreme Court appointments, the economy and abortion.

It was also found in a separate YouGov poll that this year's election was one of the most stressful events in the lives of many Americans in the last 12 months.

Some 64 percent of voters felt that the 2024 race for the White House had been either the most stressful event or one of the most stressful periods in the last 12 months of their lives.

The poll was released on Wednesday and had surveyed a group of 2,422 Americans.
