A man has been charged after allegedly stalking Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas in a six-year ordeal.

Kyle Shaw, 37, appeared before a judge in Sefton, Merseyside, after being accused of causing serious distress to the 64-year-old BBC star. The alleged actions took place between 2017 and 2023, according to The Mirror.

According to reports, Ballas had previously detailed how she had called the police over a man taking photos of her house and car.

Now, the man is said to have appeared at South Sefton magistrates’ court in Bootle, where he was charged with stalking as well as a separate charge of possessing cannabis.

The charge stated that Shaw ‘‘pursued a course of conduct, namely sending messages online, which amounted to stalking causing Shirley Ballas serious alarm or distress”. The charge also stated that the man's actions “had a substantial adverse effect on her usual day-to-day activities”.

The BBC judge previously spoke out about her "fearful" ordeal. Speaking on the Mirror's Invite Only podcast, Shirley said: "There was one particular person who was kind of stalking me.

"That is under investigation at the moment, as we speak. I know his computer and phone, everything has been confiscated. He was taking pictures of my house, he had my house, he had my car. So, yes, there have been times when I have been fearful."

She continued: "I meet people and they really, the majority of people are fantastic, but then once or twice you'll, they lunge.... this one particular person will lunge at me, and he really feels he knows me.

"He feels he knows me. But he only knows me from the TV. Or from following me on social media. And that's quite alarming."

Shirley went on to confess that she is a "very vigilant person," detailing that she avoids being out alone. She explained: "I am a very vigilant person. When I go out, I'm careful not to go alone. If it's at night, I'm always a little bit nervous.

"So, yeah, I don't take anything lightly. There are many amazing people, but there are a few strange people out there. It's quite hard, and makes you always a little bit more precautious."
