Actor Mandy Moore has hit out at people criticising her over a fundraiser she's been promoting.
Mandy, 40, announced earlier this week that her home in southern California has been damaged by the fires that have swept through the region. She's since shared a fundraiser for two relatives who she said have also been affected.
She posted on on her Instagram Story on Thursday that her brother-in-law Griff and sister-in-law Kit "lost everything" just weeks away from the birth of their first child. This Is Us star Mandy later posted that the couple "lost their home" and "everything they own" in the Eaton Fire. She included a link to a fundraising page for them in the second post and told her followers on the platform: "So many have reached out [over] how to help [them] and here's a way if you feel inclined".
Her promotion of the GoFundMe page has prompted some backlash, with critics questioning why she's asking her followers to help given her career. Mandy however addressed the criticism, and seemingly speculation about her net worth, in a post promoting the fundraiser on her page that same day.
She said: "People questioning whether we're helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money Google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic. Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe and I'm sharing because people have asked how they can help them." She added in the post: "We just lost most of our life in a fire too. Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything."

@mandymooremm/Instagram)Mandy, who is married to singer Taylor Goldsmith, said at the beginning of the post: "Yesterday, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law Griff & Kit lost their home and everything they own in the Eaton Fire. With their first baby on the way in a matter of weeks, they need our support now more than ever. Griff is a touring musician and also lost his entire arsenal of drums/percussion he uses to make a living. It's all so much. So many have asked how to help during this unimaginable and stressful time…Please consider donating and sharing to help them rebuild."
She later wrote in an update: "Blown away by the love & support for these two. Thank you thank you thank you. People are unbelievably kind." And Mandy wrote on Friday morning alongside a link to a separate fundraiser for a different cause related to the ongoing fires: "I'm donating and going to be posting a bunch of these. Give if you can. $5 helps!"

Instagram)Questioning her promoting of the fundraiser for her relatives, one critic wrote earlier this week in the comments section of her post: "Surely she can get them a new house?!" Another said: "You're a multimillionaire." A third wrote: "Pretty sure Mandy has boatloads more money than everyone donating to her family. Ridiculous." Someone else said: "Yikes ... NOT a good look from someone of her means."
Mandy however was defended by some of her followers in the comments section. One person wrote: "You do realise that she also lost a majority of her home and also needs to focus on herself and their 3 kids." Another said: "How many entire lives and homes is [Mandy] herself expected to rebuild?" A third questioned one critic: "How do YOU know what she can and cannot do?"
The GoFundMe page, said to have been organised by a friend of the couple, has now raised more than $160,00 - roughly £130,000 - since it was set up on Thursday. There has been more than 1,500 donations through the fundraiser.
