When Erika Jayne first appeared on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Lisa Vanderpump questioned the age gap between Erika and her husband Tom Girardi.
Tom is 33 years older than Erika, but she always insisted the age difference between them was never a problem. At the time they married, Tom was a twice-divorced successful partner in his own legal firm, Girardi & Keese. He was the attorney who won the famous Erin Brockovich case against corporate giant PG&E. In 2003, Tom was inducted into the Trial Lawyer Hall of Fame by the California State Bar.
But all that changed when Tom was caught with his hand in the till at his own firm. His handlers quickly whisked him away into a memory care facility, claiming he was suffering from dementia. And Erika filed for divorce.
Is Erika Jayne still in touch with her estranged husband?
On January 8, Erika was a guest on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. Of course, one of the first things Andy wanted to know was if Erika was still in touch with Tom. Sadly, she said, “No, not at all.”
“It’s a sad ending,” Erika told Andy.
Tom and Erika were married for twenty years, and even though she filed for divorce in November 2020, they’re still legally married. Tom’s ongoing legal and health issues have delayed the finalization of their divorce. Even though they’re not fully divorced yet, Erika seems much more serene and even-tempered these days. She’s finally starting to come around after the collapse of her marriage.
Following his federal wire fraud conviction, Tom is currently undergoing a 30-day evaluation at the Federal Medical Center in North Carolina. Doctors are hoping to determine whether the 85-year-old is well enough to be incarcerated in a Federal prison. Otherwise, he’ll be sent to a medical facility to serve out his sentence. Tom won’t be sentenced until his evaluation is complete.
Ironically, Erika’s fellow guest on WWHL was Real Housewives of New York newbie Racquel Chevremont. Racquel’s fiancée, Mel Corpus, who was sitting in the audience’s front row, is a neuropsychologist. That’s what she does for a living: she evaluates behavior and cognitive functions.
“Really?” Andy asked, intrigued. “You evaluate people who are claiming insanity?” Mel nodded her head yes.
“Very interesting,” Erika said.
