Iconic TV star Margo Martindale is sticking to her guns — quite literally — in new Amazon Prime Video series “The Sticky.”
Three-time Emmy winner Martindale stars as Ruth Landry, a tough, middle-aged maple syrup farmer who turns to crime when the bureaucratic authorities threaten to take away everything she loves. After realizing her livelihood is at stake, she teams up with a “hot-tempered Bostonian mobster (Chris Diamantopoulos) and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard (Guillaume Cyr) to carry out a multimillion-dollar heist on Quebec’s maple syrup surplus,” according to the official synopsis.
Oscar and Emmy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis guest stars and executive produces.
The series is inspired by a real-life 2012 heist in which more than $18 million worth of maple syrup was stolen from Quebec’s national reserves. “The Sticky” is brought to the screen by Blumhouse Television, with founder Jason Blum executive producing.
Creators, executive producers, and writers Brian Donovan and Ed Herro serve as the showrunners. All six episodes of the dark comedy series will be released at once.
“The Sticky” is produced by Blumhouse Television, Curtis’ Comet Pictures, Jonathan Levine’s Megamix, and Sphere Media. Levine and Gillian Bohrer executive produce for Megamix, with Curtis EPing for Comet Pictures. Blum, Chris Dickie, Jeremy Gold, and Chris McCumber all executive produce for Blumhouse Television, along with Michael Dowse, Lauren Grant, Josée Vallée, and Bruno Dubé for Sphere Media, Inc. Russell Goldman is an associate producer for Comet Pictures.
Curtis has been exploring TV more and more, with her Emmy-winning turn in “The Bear” and other upcoming Prime Video series “Scarpetta.” Curtis is set to play Nicole Kidman’s sister in the adaption of Patricia Cornwell’s bestselling crime novel. Prior to its premiere, the mystery thriller series was already announced to have a two-season order. Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, and Ariana DeBose also star. Liz Sarnoff (“Barry,” “Lost,” “Deadwood”) is writing, executive producing, and serving as showrunner.
Both Kidman and Curtis will executive produce through their respective banners, Kidman’s Blossom Films and Curtis’ Comet Pictures. Like “The Sticky,” “Scarpetta” is also a Blumhouse Television series.
“The Sticky” premieres December 6 on Prime Video. Check out the trailer below.
