Mark Wright's grandad Eddie has sadly died just weeks after he shared the exciting news he's becoming a dad.

The former TOWIE star's beloved grandfather died on Monday "surrounded by his loved ones". He had been struggling with health issues since a fall in the summer, which resulted in him being hospitalised. The devastating news comes just week after Mark shared a pregnancy announcement with wife Michelle Keegan.

They will be welcoming their first child this year, as well as celebrating their 10th wedding anniversary. Sharing the news of Eddie's passing, statement shared with Mail Online read: "Mark’s grandad passed away last night. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones."

In June, Mark's dad Mark Snr. shared that Eddie had been hospitalised as they marked Father's Day. He posted a photo of Eddie sat in a vehicle and wrote: "Happy Father's Day to the best - unfortunately in hospital at the moment after a fall a couple of days ago, but dad I'm on my way up to see you now." Mark Snr. concluded with a message for Eddie, telling him: "Keep strong."

Mark Snr.'s children, including Jess Wright shared messages as alongside a heart emoji, she reacted: "The best there is." Younger sibling Natalya Wright instead shared a heart emoji. Sadie Stuart Wright, the wife of Mark Jr.'s cousin Elliott Wright, posted emojis depicting praying hands and a heart. And although Mark Jr. didn't appear to have commented, he liked the post shared by his father.

Mark has previously paid tribute to his grandfather. He once spoke about his whilst on This Morning in 2019, and said: "He's done so much for our family, my granddad, all our lives. Like he's our king. To us, he's the best granddad you could ever have." The former the Only Way is Essex cast member's remarks came as he discussed them having been on BBC ancestry show Who Do You Think You Are? together.

Teasing that they had found out about their heritage, he added: "It's hard to repay him for how much he's done. And this was that moment where I could say, y'know before it's too late, I've been able to give this back." During the coronavirus pandemic, Mark struggled not seeing his grandad and issued a shoutout to him on his radio show.

Mark opened up on Eddie following a call in about someone's grandad who had worked as a paramedic for 30 years, but couldn't help because of his age. He said: "Sorry, I'm getting a bit choked up there. I'm missing my granddad very much, granddad Eddie. I love you loads and I can't wait to see you soon."

Just before the new year, Michelle and Mark shared the exciting news they are set to become parents. They both shared a stunning photo taken on a beach as Michelle held a hand on her bump and beamed at Mark as he walked towards her. The expectant parents both wore matching white outfits and shared: "2025 is going to be a special one for us…"
