He will not write a song about her.
Matty Healy said he is “not interested” in writing songs about his love life after his highly publicized split from Taylor Swift.
“Last year, I became a way more well-known public figure for loads of different reasons. The only reason that I was interested in is kind of like, what I was doing,” the 1975 frontman, who dated the “Bad Blood” singer for a few months in 2023, said on the “Doomscroll” podcast Wednesday.
“So I think that a lot of artists, they become very interested in their lore, or they become interested in the things that have happened outside of their art that people know about, and they want to address that. And fair enough, do you know what I mean?”
Healy said he was more open to writing about heartbreak and “all these stories about relationships” on his band’s first record but has since had a change of heart about opening up about those topics.
“I would kind of just be lying if I made a record about, I don’t know, all the stuff that was said about me or my casual romantic liaisons or whatever it may be that I’ve kind of become known for, just because I was famous,” he shared.
“I think that that’s an obvious thing to draw from. And I’m just not interested in it. And I think like, the maintenance of the status quo is something that I always fight against,” Healy, 35, continued.
“So the idea of making a record about something that personally happened to me, that by the time I put it out is gonna be like two years old, I see people doing that as well, and it’s not interesting.”
Although the British singer-songwriter isn’t keen on sharing his love life through music, his ex Swift, 34, had no problem making a few songs about their whirlwind romance. The two originally dated in 2014 before attempting to rekindle their romance in 2023.
On the pop star’s latest studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift sang about a “momentary” relationship that shouldn’t have been rekindled.

“It was legendary / It was momentary / It was unnecessary / Should’ve let it stay buried,” she sang on “loml.”
“Oh what a valiant roar / What a bland goodbye / The coward claimed he was a lion / I’m combing through the braids of lies / ‘I’ll never leave’ / ‘Nevermind.’”
In the title track, “The Tortured Poets Department,” the billionaire singer also seemingly referenced Healy’s love for typewriters.
“You left your typewriter at my apartment / Straight from the Tortured Poets Department / I think some things I never say / Like, ‘Who uses typewriters anyway?’” she sang.
Healy and Swift were originally linked in 2014 after the “Cruel Summer” singer was spotted rocking out at one of the band’s concerts.
In May 2023, the musicians rekindled things but called it quits the following month due to scheduling and incompatibility issues.
Swift has since moved on with NFL star Travis Kelce, while Healy is now engaged to Gabbriette Bechtel.
