Max George reveals it is ‘so good’ to spend Christmas at home with his family after an emergency trip to the hospital days before.
The Wanted singer, 36, underwent emergency surgery last week to have a pacemaker fitted after feeling ‘really unwell’ with a low heart rate.
He previously called the procedure the ‘best Christmas present’ and confirmed he would be heading home for the big day.
Max gave fans a little update on Instagram, posting pictures from a low-key Christmas snuggled up with girlfriend Maisie Smith, 23.
‘It’s so good to be home❤️,’ he captioned the collection of snaps, which included their dinner table complete with Christmas crackers and decorations.
Maisie, who is a former EastEnders star, met Max when they were competing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 and started dating two years later.
Max was relaxing in a brown hoodie while Maisie rocked a red jumper and matching Christmas paper crown.
He didn’t give any further health updates after confirming on December 23 that he would be heading home for the holiday.
‘The numbers are way way better. I feel knackered, slept a lot today,’ he said before returning home.
‘A few more tests to do in the next couple of weeks, something to do with my lungs. But that’s the least of my worries right now.
‘So yeah, all good. A bit battered and bruised, and knackered but [he gave a thumbs up].’
After the shock health turn, Maisie had said she was planning to visit him in hospital despite that entailing a 500-mile round trip.
‘We’re still talking every day and FaceTiming. I’m still trying to be there as much as I can be,’ she told The Sun at the time.
‘I’ve got Christmas day off, so I’ll be going to see him. We’re not 100% sure where he’ll be spending Christmas at this point in time, but whatever happens we’ll be together.’
Max had been feeling unwell and was informed that he had a ‘block’ in his heart for which a pacemaker – a small device used to treat some arrhythmias – has been fitted.
He previously shared a clip of his hand-sized heart rate monitor moving from 35 to 34 to 38 as he waved his finger, begging for it to ‘go up.’
According to the British Heart Foundation, a normal resting heart rate should be between 60 and 100 beats per minute.
The operation took around two and a half hours as ‘some of [his] veins had collapsed where the wires were meant to go’.
In a post-operation update to followers, he posted a photo of the large scar above which is a tattoo of his late Wanted bandmate Tom Parker’s birthday, August 4, 1988.
He added: ‘‘The surgeon kindly put my pacemaker just underneath a very special tattoo of mine.. So I’m sure it’s being looked after.’
While in the hospital Max had to change rooms after he accidentally flooded his first one by leaving the tap on — only for the sink to get blocked.
Videoing himself from his hospital bed, George said: ‘Just got out of bed then, 2am it is, and my feet just went in about a foot of water.’
