A pal of Meghan Markle's has given his telling verdict on her relationship with Prince Harry after the Duke dismissed rumours about their marriage.

Just last week, Harry laughed off allegations on social media that his relationship with Meghan was in trouble during an appearance in New York. The couple have increasingly been pictured at separate public events over the last few months, as they focus on their own work initiatives. In fact, on that same day, Harry was in New York, and Meghan was thousands of miles away in California, where she posed on the red carpet at the Paley Honors Fall Gala with Tyler Perry, who was being honoured at the event.

The filmmaker is known to be close to the couple after offering them one of his California homes to stay in when they first moved to the US. He is also godfather to the couple's youngest child Princess Lilibet.

And at the event, Tyler gave a rare insight into Harry and Meghan's relationship, telling E! News: "They love each other. They have a beautiful family and I just want the best for them." He also opened up about his friendship with the Sussexes and added: "It's a real, pure and beautiful friendship. I love them."

His comments come after Harry was also asked about speculation during an appearance at The New York Times Dealbook Summit, where he was interviewed by Andrew Sorkin. Harry said: "Apparently we've bought or moved house maybe 10, 12 times. We've apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well."

He added, laughing: "So it's just like, what?" The duke added: "It's hard to keep up with but that's why you just sort of ignore it." He added that he felt genuinely sorry for the trolls, whose "hopes are just built and built, and it doesn't happen".

Meanwhile, Tyler was also asked about the couple in another interview with the Sunday Times but gave a frosty response. He was asked how he helped Harry and Meghan prepare for their move to America, and the interviewer revealed the "conversational intimacy evaporated". The filmmaker then went on to explain that Meghan was from California originally, so had no need to prepare for any change.

The Why Did I Get Married? actor then said: "But I will say this: what I learnt about mentioning them — because there's this insatiable appetite to know all about them — is that any question that is asked becomes the headline of anything I say."

He was then asked why there was an insatiable appetite for news about the couple but he said he doesn't pay attention to the media and asked the interviewer: "You're from the UK, you tell me" in a tense clash.

Tyler's close friendship with the Sussexes was also explored in Meghan and Harry's 2022 Netflix documentary series - where it was revealed the couple had not known the movie businessman before they asked to borrow one of his homes. It was revealed that Tyler had also offered the couple the use of his private jet and security team while they got settled.

Footage showed Meghan expressing her appreciation for Tyler's kindness, confessing she burst into tears, and she said that she found it easier to "open up to someone who knows nothing at all" about her.
